Hi. I need help. I am a super casual healer main, lucky enough to have friends that love tanking, but they want a break for TWW and asked if I’d be interested in giving it a shot. I am NOT a hardcore gamer, my best DPS is BM Hunter, but I think I’m pretty good heals. I’m not against a challenge. I’m just not great at positioning/slow to react.
I’m debating between Blood DK, Prot Pally, or Brew Monk and hoping for some insight from people who play those (or other) tank classes! I’ve played blood dk off and on. The shields are fun and make my bad positioning more forgiving, lol. I used to play prot pally a bit, but, honestly, I got in a string of really toxic groups back in SL and haven’t had the courage to try it again. Brewmaster monk SOUNDS like so much fun, but everyone I speak to either says it’s impossible for casuals to learn or tell me it sucks.
I’m not looking to be an M10+ super tank, just to be able to run my friends through some heroics when they ask to help everyone out. I’d really love to hear what tanks people are excited to play. What is your favorite? What would you say to someone about to give it a try?
Bonus points if anyone has any general tanking tips too, haha.
Whatever it is , it will be a good choice

Haha, if only I was that brave! Warriors are the tankiest tank of them all!
If what you like about Blood dk is “the shield” that makes positioning mistakes less of a problem, I’d seriously consider looking at Prot Warrior.
It’s bad at sustaining itself, but in group content you have a healer so that’s not an issue. The rotation isn’t that complex, and almost all of your rage is spent on maintaining 2 buffs that basically make you take no damage at all times.
It’s a a spec with a somewhat high APM but a fairly simple rotation, and high enough raw defense especially with it’s buffs up to just ignore a lot of things.

if you don’t have any previous experience , i would pick bear tank , blood dk and brew monk have a less straightforward gameplay and prot paladin needs experience too to use all the utility . bear tank has the easiest rotation

Tbh I say play whatever you find the most fun. It’s not likely going to make a ton of difference unless your pushing prenerf Mythic raiding or high keys I believe.
Go be a gamer and be free Geminiloc and play the tank you love!
The one you engage with more and like more is the one you’re likely to do better with.
The correct answer is Warrior. The party is over Death Knights and Demon Hunters. It’s time to go home.

The only advice I can give is to try a couple in actual runs and see which playstyle clicks with you. Because that’s going to matter more than the relative strength of the specs.
Obviously that’s not feasible if you don’t have a lot of time to play…in which case the superior choice is clearly the one with the transmogs you like the most.

Second this.
Sword and board. A couple facetank buttons.
Not to mention the satisfaction of charging into one pack, heroic leaping into another, then whirlwinding through the packs. Feels good man. Feels good.
Warrior for the win!
Brewmaster.
The best tank there ever is, regardless of the state of Brewmaster.
But on a more serious note, since most tanks just play so differently to each other it depends on what kind of tanking you prefer. I think passive mitigation is the best to make the healthpool as smooth and safe as possible. So my vote goes to Brewmaster all day, every day.

Blood dk, press death strike a lot equals winning

Brewmaster is the most complicated tank and for very little payoff. I would avoid.

Since I’m a druid, no matter what I play whether it be tank, healer or dps… gonna be Druid.
Bear Druid go RAWR.
I’ll probably be playing Blood DK in season 1.
Though the nice thing about Tanks is that they’re REALLY easy to reroll since it’s by far the easiest role to gear.
Btw they changed how they skill works and it’s way less effective now but it’s honestly how it always should have been.
That makes me sad, I was leveling my dk next. Lol
