I think dueling is the best way to improve in PvP. Not only is it a great way to master your class, but also get a solid understand what other classes are capable of doing to you. If you are spending more time complaining about PvP than you are in dueling in Durotar or Dun Morough, you’re doing it wrong.
back in my day the truly hardcore dueled over the burning coals in the Military wing of Ironforge…just sayin.
I agree! This is my first mage, and I haven’t done any duels yet. Though, I’ve had a good amount of 1v1s in the wild.
I’m looking forward to exploring this class, and dueling is definitely a part of that!
That’s awesome to hear man. You’re on a great server to duel on.
If you are struggling with a matchup, ask questions! Or check out some YouTube vids. I learned tricks from other mages that would’ve taken me a ton of time to try to figure out on my own.
And beware of SL Warlocks…
I don’t really duel much but I do enjoy 1v1s out in the world.
Always feels good to get someone back when they try and gank you in PVE spec.
Duels in classic are epic and so much fun. 100% built my rogue to destroy wizards of every kind, I don’t even fear those supposed lethal tank warlocks. Improved sprint and improved kick Sprint and gouge for slaughtering casters. Just ok vs warriors, but better than hemo sword spec like the regular pvp guys. In battleground I am dependent on healers like warriors are, but way stronger in team fights than the regular sub rogues. Vs sub rogues, I don’t know what to do about them 1v1 short of real good rng luck they have my number, so I tend to chill with other classes and support in ways sub only dreams of because killing healers tends to be something others just don’t do and I’m usually given almost free access to them. It’s rare that the horde peel me til it’s already over for that healer, then I get charged by no less than 3 warriors because that’s how it works.
Very fun but i just would like everyone to know proper etiquette.
I look at duel as meh.
Duel you know your opponent.
Example
Frost mage stack frost resistance.
Rogue vs mage spec frost throw on dodge/stamina/armor/Defs.
Can it help? Yes, if you have your opponent stacks against you.
Duel u want to increase difficulty to almost impossible to win.
Reason: WPvP/BGs can or will be stacked against you.
As in out numbered, they got the jump on you, someone just stacks to kill one class only, and environment.
Ppl like to win in a duel. I don’t. I might start at half hp/mana or tell ppl they can do all free action pot or whatever.
Dude, same! What do you consider proper etiquette?
For me, it is:
- Not starting the duel until both people are at full health and mana.
- Using potions.
- Not clicking off outside class buffs.
- Using line of sight (unless its agreed upon).
- Intentionally witing to start the duel until barriers/shields fall off.
Anything else you can think of?
someone mentioned hunters pre trapping and standing on top off it with a flare (lame) like warriors should get charge off and rogues the opener unless its a mirror.
grenades and bandages are fine.
ive never had problems Losing cuz im a hunter but rarely people try to LoS in ironforge gates.
For me I think any CD beyond 7-8 minutes is kind of lame.
Essentially I want a duel to represent what a combat 1v1 situation would look like if I was getting in to constant 1v1s over and over, and lay on hands isn’t going to be very representative of that scenario, and neither is goblin rocket helm, and yet I’ve had people who argued fervently in support of their use of both.
I’d also arguing that letting you put barrier on before you get opened on is sort of an advantage to you.
Dueling can be fun. Depends on the attitudes involved. I’m only interested in casual fun, so people blowing consumeables is a big turn off. I’m out there to have fun, not spend gold.
I prefer picking flowers
PvP is at its purest form when theres a Black Lotus at stake
There was actual etiquette in dueling in Vanilla. You wouldn’t use consumables, for sure. In casual duels, you also wouldn’t use your trinkets or major cooldowns. If someone asked for an all-out duel, then those things would be valid. But unfortunately these kinds of things did not seem to transition into Classic; everyone tries to stun > cooldown > burst asap and then refuse to duel again until their cooldowns are up, it’s just a joke.
