Hello, I have this thing with Vanilla WoW where when a character hit level 15, regardless of class gear specialization you could all wear those grey level 15 shoulders. If I ever leveled a toon to level 15 I would never delete it. It was such an odd reward going from being a peasant to being a peasant with shoulders haha. I called that my point of no return for toons.
What were some of your stopping points or milestones that would lock a toon in your character list forever?

No point of No Return. Once WotLK expansion got deeper, I deleted EVERYTHING and EVERYONE.
Best way to lock in walking away from a game is deleting everything.
I take a George R.R. Martin approach – nobody is safe.

I’ve deleted max level characters just to roll something else.
I agree with Hasnochange, no one is safe.

All of my alts function as Bank Slots. So I never deleted them. I did not actualy delete a character until after Wrath.
Nothing. This character only exists to post on the forums - otherwise I deleted all my characters when I quit. I’ll delete any character.
I have 3 characters that will never be deleted. Brick here who was my first character in Vanilla, My paladin who I rolled the night TBC opened and my Druid (well I have 2 max level druids, but my first one) whom I rolled the week before the portal opened.
They have very sentimental strings and milestones attached to them.
The others as space is needed.

Deleted my main priest when BFA came out. Got tired of healing and wasnt a fan of shadow.
i think the highest level i ever deleted was a 43 or 47 warlock
I once deleted a max level toon simply because it had painful memories associated with it. So I guess I dont really have a point of no return.

In OG vanilla I deleted toons into the 20s a few times because I’d reroll and want to use the same name.
I also got angry with my shaman alt and deleted it while drunk on multiple occasions (the highest being around 52), and had to have it restored both times.
Nowadays I basically wouldn’t delete anything over level 3, as I know enough about the classes to have those already planned out, and would only create a different toon if I was trying to get a feel for a specific cosmetic /customization (since vanilla had no barber shop)

I have never deleted a character above level 10. But then I also haven’t neded to delete characters much at all.
I deleted my original level 80 Vanilla/TBC/Wrath raiding main with all of the achievements, exalted reps, and a bank full of librams and pristine black diamonds.
So I guess there’s no “point of no return” for me.
Those level 15 grey shoulders were one the things that made Vanilla special. Yes, they were garbage, but it felt good to finally have something to put in that slot.

I too deleted all my Vanilla characters over the years, and really regret deleting the one or two who were wearing all Vanilla gear still. Would have been serious forum cred to post here with those characters to get inspected
I would say that generally if a character makes it to 35, they’ll also probably get leveled to max eventually. Up until that level, no character is safe from Alt Purgatory.
I have hit 50 max levels and deleted them all, more than once

No reason to delete unless you’re out of character slots. They’re still holding your names. If you delete them, the name can then be taken by someone else.

The only character that is safe from the axe for me is my warlock, and that’s only because it has the Of the black harvest title.
I use to have all classes maxed out in Wrath and most of those toons i started back in BC, but due to several of the guilds i was in getting nuked near the end of wrath i quit.
Long story short i deleted them all because of burnout after that, even the toon that had Baron rivendare’s mount. Later came back in Cata because a friend of mine came back.
