Okay, for those that are interested in the lore of the game, I wanted to open up this speculation tab on what precisely Xal’atath is.
In bfa she possessed the body of a blood elf, when she did that, she became a void elf. Or a close approximation of one. We know this is not her original body however and so what is she?
The most common answer so far is that she is the hidden fifth old god.
Though N’zoth does speak to her as if she is different or not on the same level as him
A more unlikely scenario is that she is some version of Alleria, they have been comparing the two in game, and Xal’atath has been time traveling.
Recently however I saw a youtube video by Xaxxas that was showing her similarities with a void Nauru. Specifically in the new cinematic her body and armor seem to align with the Nauru form. Her teleportation into the palace also seems to be directly over the image of the Nauru crystal.
So, what is she? What do you guys’ think is the most likely scenario? And seperatly what do you guys’ think is the best scenario from a story telling perspective?
I still see that as the most likely answer, but the fact that we don’t know for sure has me intrigued. The possibility for it to be a good twist is there.
My personal theory is that she is another kind of Void being, created by the Void Lords as an intermediary between them and the Old Gods.
I mean, the Void Lords created the Old Gods and hurled them randomly into the Great Cosmos, would they not want an intermediary agent to oversee the Old God’s missions? Do they just let the Old Gods do whatever they want without any oversight? Seems like a terrible mistake, you always need middle-managers.
So Xal’atath was a middle-manager created by the Void Lords to ensure that the Old Gods do not get any funny ideas, and when the Old Gods were tired of being overseen, they turned on Xal’atath and imprisoned her within the blade.
It’s funny, the Old Gods were created exclusively to corrupt the World-Soul. But the Old Gods played at empire-building and warred against each other for millennia. How did that advance their agenda in any way?
Are we looking at the beginning of a Void civil war?
There have been some hints that a fifth old god might have existed. And we know Xal’atath was around during the black empire and uses whispers and dreams to influence people. So, it isn’t without some evidence.
Honestly, as a Harbinger of the Void, I expect her to be less powerful than an Old God. I’m fully expecting her to either be the last raid boss of TWW or the last raid boss of the first raid in Midnight. I’ll be surprised if she survives to the Last Titan. We’ll be getting introduced to more powerful, more scary members of the Void.
If she is suppose to be an old gold, i don’t think N’zoth would just imprisoning her like he did. He would kill and consume her to get more power, cause it is what old gods do consuming everything. Also, her void powers looks very diferent from the old gods.
