Is anyone starting to hate this system? For the past 2 weeks, i have watched healers and tanks not quified to be in the top keys. Tanks who want to be DPs and healers who only know 1 spell. On key 12 tank didn’t even know under rot. 4 people tried to teach him, he went and destroyed the key timer and 40 deaths and on high keys naked healers going 1 heal, dps dps dps.
Primarily, it is a result of supply and demand. There are more than 3 dps per tank or healer in the sub-20 pug world. So healers and tanks get to be picky, and play with dps that are better. In a 12 key, there is just no way. Tanks and healers who know how to play well have reached 20 and above by now (or they could and don’t know it).
What can you do about it? Level up that Paladin. Choose protection or holy, see how it goes.
This is the main reason why you want to be picky on who you invite. It’s also this late in the tier that alot of people are taking a break and/or pushing much much higher key.
I should probably talk to my GM (who regularly plays a Druid tank) and get her to run me through a M0 to show me how to tank it. I actually have almost zero experience at tanking after having some nasty experiences at it during my early days and being frightened away from it. But pallies are so damned fun to play; I play my handsome Dwarf Paladin on Protection when I need to face heavy hitters out in the world and I really enjoy it. I know its very different in dungeons but I have no idea really what I should be doing.
May give it a go one day with her and see how lousy I would be at it.
blizzard have given everyone the tools for proper communication. Voice comms within the game, ping system, marking system. People just choose to ignore it. The issue w/ M+ isn’t the timer it’s the players playing it
depending on how geared your tank is you may not learn much. But I guess it’ll be a good place to get some confidence. I’m a mediocre tank at best but here are some of my advice for you.
Learn how mobs move and make it so when you plant they all clump together so that dps can easily aoe them down
Always face mob away from the dps. Even if you have an overeagered dps try your best to face them away.
defensive cooldown are best used when you have alot of health and not when you’re dying. This way it gives you healer time to heal you. Me personally I would use a small cooldown on pull (Argent Defender) as I’m pulling that way healer wont panic about my health bouncing up and down.
Beating the timer is the challenge. Without it, there’s little reason to do it. Who wants to spend more time in a dungeon going from point A to D than they have to. The affixes are there to challenge us further but it’s always about timing it. Get rid of the timer then you remove the actual challenge. You’ll actually see less participation because why bother.
Players have also been speed running dungeons for a challenge since vanilla. Then we had challenge mode dungeons for MoP and WoD which also had timers. With the top rewards going to players who were the fastest.
Thankfully we have the option of not timing it should we mess up or choose to. Just not as many aspect crests and I think 1 less end of dungeon loot.
The real issue is that very few people want to spend time beating head against the wall. That includes leveling dungeons. As a dps main I appreciate a tank with things to do after the dungeon. I do however understand the frustration from other players with tanks chain pulling to the next boss. Kind of the drawback of random dungeon queues. You don’t get to choose your group and aren’t guaranteed the tank won’t chain pull or not get someone who decides to “help” with pulling.
That’s no where near the top, unfortunately this late in the tier this is a level where some alts go cause they can get a quick carry for an ilvl boost.
Rating inflation + end of season. It has always been the worst time to play M+.
Rating inflation happens because better players run lower keys to upgrade their gear, and it results in players who are not skilled enough to run the key level having the rating and ilvl appropriate to run higher pug keys than they would normally have. We’ve had 2 1/2 months of pure inflation due in part to Augvokers exisiting so now that we’re here at the very end of patch, you’re going to be playing with some of the “worst” players to choose from
Not sure why you think that failing a timer should be considered entertaining to those other people you think should have no choice but to recruit an esports team and pretend they are “friends”.
Fact: you can’t turn people who play the game for its entertainment value to them into people who only do it to brag about their place on a ladder. You got your game model. You want other people to be forced to enjoy playing like you do. That’s a gigantic fail, unless your goal is to continually drive away players who don’t want to be like you.
