What is wrong with Hunter Pets

I am a longtime WoW player and played last in the last patch for Battle for Azeroth, skipping Shadowlands.

In Dragonflight, Hunter Pets feel like they don’t react as snappy as before. When I attack a enemy they used to start attacking it right away and use their Dash ability, if set to Defensive they would attack any enemy that attacks you.
Now often times I attack one enemy in a group of three, the pet attacks and once that enemy is dead it runs back to me and stands right next to me while the other two are hitting me.
The aggro of pets is also atrocious, how is it possible as BM that you use Kill Command while the pet uses growl and the enemy still attacks you instead of the pet?

Am I alone in feeling like this?

I help my pet with initial aggro by casting Misdirection on it. I haven’t had a problem.

#showtooltip Misdirection
/cast [@focus, help] [@pet, nodead, exists] Misdirection

Yeah, I ended up adding “/petattack [harm, nodead]” to like every attack I have, otherwise the pet just keeps getting limp and doesn’t do anything in combat.

That being said, I dislike BM now… because you are so reliant on the pet since Kill Command is the main thing you use save Serrated Shot. Add to that a pet ai that seemingly became more dumb and slow and you got a nice cocktail.

Pet AI, unfortunately, has not been significantly updated to fix the “delays” in the pet’s damage.

Using macros to bake in your pet’s abilities into your own has been the name of the game for quite some time. It avoids the delays in pet abilities as they don’t often use abilities immediately after they come off their own GCD.

I would love to see Blizzard actually address pet AI, so we, as hunters, don’t have to constantly “fix” the issues in combat, dismiss a stuck pet, spam Dash on a pet that somehow is half way across the zone/room suddenly during an encounter.

I do hope it is addressed soon until then… macro away!

Yeah unfortunately we’ve had to macro in attacks for a while now. They apparently weren’t doing basic attacks as fast as they should. Not certain if they’ve fixed that or not, but I definitely see the difference between having this macroed in on live vs on the beta where they really slow to react because I haven’t macroed my spells.

Here’s what I use for mine.

#showtooltip Cobra Shot
/cast Cobra Shot
/petattack [@target,exists]
/petfollow [@target,noexists]
/cast Claw(Basic Attack)
/cast Bite(Basic Attack)
/cast Smack(Basic Attack)

I’ve macroed that into most of my main spells.
