What is WRONG with BFA?

TL;DR: the longer levels against mob with more HP coupled with nerfed heirlooms did it for me. The grind they made just jaded(?) me from the rest of the game.

OK, first let me preface this by saying that I’m no hardcore raider or skill capped PvP junkie, I’m just an average player who’ve been grinding since Vanilla (seriously, at the end of TBC.)

I used to LOVE playing WoW! Getting my first toon to max level in Wrath was possibly the 2nd best feeling in the world!

Grinding random dungeons for coins to buy heirlooms which made it extremely easier to level alts made WoW even more exciting!

Vanilla was a grind, but it was new and very addicting. The rewarding feeling you get from gaining 1% more crit was surreal.

TBC’s grind to 55 with the coolest guild in the world just so I could unlock DK’s when wrath launched was a blast!

Cata made everything new and exciting again, for me. Hell yeah I wanted to level more alts!

MoP…monks were cool…BUT, the Timeless Isles made the grind worthwhile, IMO. What an amusement park!

WoD, people hate WoD, but out of all of the expansions before and after, this was the ONE xpac I literally had to stop playing, so I could concentrate on school work. WoD was basically the bonus round in Super Mario Bros, where you enter a portal, grab as much gold as you can, and return to the real game.

Legion kicked it up a notch, with Class Mounts, powerful Artifact Weapons, various skins, and 2 new endgame zones! I thought this was WoW’s last hoorah.

But, then BfA happened. The pinnacle of WoW’s cinematic team. Banshee Queen screeming, boy kings pulling the Light down from the heavens, forsaken daughters returning to their homeland, this was the expansion that brought us back to our ROOTS, right?

Maybe?

Jaina and the Horde, buddying up again, against an undead foe; the grind being lengthened to vanilla-esque lengths; Thrall getting pulled out of Outlands to fight for the Horde; world PvP being extremely incentivized.

But what went wrong?

In My Opinion,

  1. Scaling the zones. It didn’t fix anything. Now, instead of going thru 4 or 6 different zones to get to Outland, all we have to do is get thru 3…and skip Outlands because the XP is crap and the mob take longer to kill. I literally went from level 25-60 all in Duskwood (and a few dungeons). So, my story so far is: I was exiled from Silvermoon for experimenting with the Void, the Alliance took us in, I helped stock a town in Duskwood, then got sent to Northrend to fight against the scourge.

  2. Increasing mob HP. This would be GREAT if the max level was 60, but you have to grind thru 120 levels now!

  3. Nerfing heirlooms. Granted, heirlooms made it harder for others to enjoy world PvP and Battlegrounds, but that’s the reward for grinding thru the game!
This one did it for me, IMO. Leveling alts was a blast when I could just burn thru mobs and get to the end game, ASAP. Hell, I even RP’ed and used the Storyline Addon before they nerfed heirlooms, because I knew I could enjoy the story without worrying about the long grind.

  4. Allied Races. Not that they’re bad, but they piled them on us after they made leveling longer and harder to do. So what if they start at level 20, the grind to level 20 is just an intro zone and a dungeon (or 2), but they expect us to grind a 100 levels 8+ times. My gripe with this is that it’s basically a reskin with a new racial.

  5. They gave us the Ashbringer….WoW set the bar WAAAYYYyyy too high in Legion, now every xpac has to blow us away. We were kings and queens! We had Azeroth’s greatest weapons!

How I’d fix it?

  1. Easy, buff heirlooms again, nerf them back down for BG’s and Warmode.
  2. Decrease mob HP or the amount of mob required to kill per quest.
  3. Summerize the damn zones. Weed out the BS, so we can experience more zones and get a better grasp on the story on our way to the top instead of just 2 or 3 zones per xpac. Throw in Zidormi to toggle back to the long version for the sentimental.
  4. Bring the bar back down. Let’s have a nice chill, reset, expansion. The Alliance and the Horde will never be friends, but they’ll also never kill the other off, so…relax for a bit. Maybe give us a Bard or two, to drown our worries.
  5. What they did with Allied races, but with classes. One completely new class, and maybe an unlockable new spec for each (old) class; THIS would be worth grinding for.

What do you think is wrong with BFA?
And how would you fix it?

At its core, the problem with BFA is that 80% of the systems are copy pasted from legion. The 20% new systems are objectively worse than what they replaced. No new innovation, the same old nonsense. So it’s like we are still playing Legion, but a worse version of it.

This is my gripe. I want to play a race with no strings attached and I really don’t know what they were thinking with implementing this feature. They can’t provide base races with new customizations, so they clearly won’t maintain customizations for Allied Races. Allied Races just robbed players of customizations they’ve been requesting since WoTLK+.

Blizzard could merge these ARs with their base race and I wouldn’t give a damn. Nightborne and Void Elves are the only actual Allied Races imo.

The horde story is absolutely terrible, and I’m really tired that blizzard keeps trying to shove the horde into blatant black and white bad guy territory.

The sooner the cancerous rot, that is Sylvanas and her bootlickers are removed from the horde, the better for the horde and azeroth as a whole.

Really tired of the Good vs. Bad shtick as well.

I honestly still don’t know what Essences are and I’ve already unlocked flying and all but the Zandalari Allied Race.

Everything feels like it’s been intentionally made slower for… reasons…

Then you need to change this because it is the core of the game? I mean I don’t get how you negatively criticize this game because there isn’t as much grinding to do. Grinding actually drove people AWAY from the game.

That, and going from having the most iconic weapons of lore in this game to some crappy necklace wasn’t the most exciting thing they could of ever done hahaha. I guess, if you are a jeweler in real life you might get excited about a necklace lol.

I gotta admit, I’m still drinking my first cup of coffee right now so I might be a little foggy, but how’d what I wrote imply that I wanted more grinding in the game?

Some silliness that the semi transparent dwarf went on about during some quest at the beginning of the patch.

Once I realized they weren’t required for flying I lost interest.

Evidentially they are the be all, end all to life itself though. Everyone has their knickers in a twist about them it seems.

Oh! Are they the things on your necklace that resembles the extra perks you got on your Artifact Weapon in Legion?

If so, then I don’t understand the issue, our Artifact Power and perks weren’t account bound, and this entire Azerite Power/Essence(?) deal seems to be the new grind till 9.0. I reckon that they’ll increase the amount of both resources we get by the end of BfA.

I believe so, although I can’t swear to it. It didn’t contribute to pathfinder so I put no effort into it.

Now that I have flying I am just interested in leveling my alts, doing quests I missed along the way and farming old stuff.

Odds are by the time I get around to being remotely interested they will be absorbed to help do something to some other giant implement that a titan or god slams into the plant.

  1. write BETTER content. Storylines are boooring
  2. Stop trying to make me fight old gods. Geezus kristo…im just a mortal.
  3. stop making me fight every…stinking…animal…in…the…game…for… a …stinking…plant.

I like BFA for the most part. The things I don’t like are:

  1. I don’t find the story compelling. Horde and Alliance fight. Horde and Alliance make friends to take on a bigger enemy. Horde and Alliance fight again. There is no finality to it. It is like watching a stupid sitcom.

  2. I don’t like the fact that so many quests are tied to faction. I like Vol’dun and Temple of Sethraliss. I would have liked to play through that zone but I don’t like playing Horde.

  3. Warfronts and Islands are not fun. Warfront are the bigger offender because they give out useful gear so you feel like you are missing out if you don’t do them. But when you queue into one you wish you hadn’t.

My reply has to be taken with a grain of salt since i came back halfway through this expac after having been gone since early Cata

  1. I actually like the idea of Mythic+ dungeons but how they are designed leaves this feature wanting. Some of the affixes, like last week’s double double deuce storm of sanguine and grievous, make tanking or healing a tedious chore. My other big problem is why do only 3 people get drops and the other 2 people get a bag of Richards? We’re talking a half hour or more for a 40% chance at 300 AP and a worthless tidal core. If 2 people absolutely must get no loot than at least give them some titan residuum so that those 2 people didnt completely waste their time.

  2. Story, nuff said

  3. The whole nature of loot and upgrading. Why can i get current season mythic 2 or better loot for killing a random mob in the open world that takes maybe 20 seconds to kill? I realize that doesnt happen all the time but the fact that it can even happen at all is ridiculous. With that said im not completely against warforged and titanforged gear, at least for mythic+, because it gives you a reason to run lower keys during horrible affixes week, like last week, where running a higher key is brutal

  4. Coming back and finding some rather curious pruning of spells and abilities making some specs strange or incomplete
