What Is This Nonsense

Awful lack of gun this patch: Raid doesn’t have one and there’s one sole dungeon one. I got one from the quest lines but…we’ll get to that.

So imagine my surprise when I check out the model for the Desert Carbine, which, for those unaware, are typically semi-auto light caliber firearms in a long gun configuration, and it turned out to be…

THIS.

I have. A few questions.

First, where gun? Is it the glowy bit? I seen proper swords which, this looks to be like a proper sword, that has any lightning bits but there’s zero rifling, there’s zero indication that rounds would go through there, or whatever this thing shoots.

Where’s the trigger? Is it that horribly small nub right next to the…ugh. Hilt of the gun? Where am I shooting? Am I just pointing the sword at someone, anime style, and going, ‘pew pew’?

Naturally no sighting once so ever, unless that thing over the handle is supposed to be a scope, in which case it would point to the back of it’s own blade?! That’s if it’s a scope!

Now I know some of you are thinking, “But Guuah! It’s a Gunblade! It’s a Gunblade just like that FF8 weapon!” Well, let me show you said Gunblade:

(Bear in mind finding actual game footage from 1999? REALLY HARD? It’s all remaster/IRL made stuff, so this is the best I could manage from some really bad and old IGN video.)

Bear in mind, this is a game from 1999, and you can clearly see a trigger a firing mechanism, a barrel going alongside the blade which makes sense for firing…It’s clearly a gun! It makes sense it works as a gun! Combination arms were quite common for a time!

It really confuses me because TWW has been cooking with their gun designs. The blunderbuss, the Severance Package, the Clockwork guns, and I liked the Undermine gun model with teeth, it looked real scrappy! They were moving away from 'giant blade on gun so it’s basically sword" to some really neat gun focused designs to “now just full sword basically.”

I don’t like this. I’m mad. That’s all. >:(

Its like Stargate where those dudes would use their staves to shoot lasers or whatever they were, plasma shots.

Maybe? I always felt like that sort of design always made sense in like, a sci-fi fantasy setting because you can conjure energy between focal points and then go pew? Maybe have the trigger be a button near the held part of the staff?

I don’t remember the Stargate ones off the top of my head but I think that sort of thing works a lot better than straight up sword that, unless told, would probably never guess it is primarly a ranged weapon.

Is the alien race that gave up their bodies and become energy to survive their world’s destruction not sci-fi enough for you?

This was literally the plot of a Star Trek episode I watched the other day too

Also Farscape, the big alien dude with a red suit what was his name oh Dargo, he had a bladegun, but notice how I say bladegun. It was meant to be a sword first and then it would transform into a blaster. It would throw people off because in space you don’t expect such low tech, especially if they’re actually using it as a sword at first.

You know what would happen to an ethereal if you shot them with a bullet? Bloody nothing!

You just need the right bullet!

Load the incendiary rounds, burn them bandages off!

You’re right! Then they’ll be naked and die of embarrassment!

Its funny because I was just talking about this gun last night with my hunter friend.

She thought it was pretty and linked it to me. I didnt realize it was a gun. I was just all “cool sword!”

Its called Wow magic , get with it

It is pretty neat looking! I just really am not huge that it’s labeled as a gun…

I did have to triple check I selected the right model when I first got something with it.

I dunno what that is! That’s fancy mage stuff! That’s why I picked up the gun!

Aktshwally, lorewise, their bandages are containment suits and if they take enough damage, they dissipate into energy in the untethered space, which is how we kill them.

They don’t die the way we fleshly beings die

Who gun?

It was extremely difficult to find a raw picture from 1999 that was of decent quality. That was literally the best one I could find.

It doesn’t make sense to say it’s from 1999 if it’s like some scooped up version from 2020 or something.

…I also said that in the post so :dracthyr_shrug:

As a side note, i still miss the original gun fire sound effects. This pea shooter sound effect has never sat well with me.
