Serious question. I’m thinking of returning after playing a bunch of other games but I honestly can’t see what this patch does for me as a player.
Ven’ari grind + more maw area = couldn’t care less.
More Torghast = no thank you.
More grinding renown = just why?
Big dungeon = great but it’s not gonna be relevant apparently.
Raid = I find it hard to care about this.
The only thing somewhat interesting is the dungeon, and it’s implemented badly and therefore not even good. For players that have already played for so long, there’s barely anything new to do if at all. There’s what, maybe a couple of cool weapons? That’s cool I guess…
But no new classes or changes to existing classes or animations or glyphs or more customization is saddening. I shudder to think that it’s gonna be the same end-game with the same stale classes and abilities with just a different raid and just more stuff to memorize - but for what? Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying WoW is horrible, I just feel like the carrot at the end of the stick is the tiniest carrot I’ve ever seen.
Is it really worth grinding all those days for the pay-off? With the same exact stale classes that have zero new customization?
Flying isn’t new content, it pains me to see that’s one of the selling points of this patch lol. One shoulderpad at a time isn’t content either.
Frankly I expected more after all this time and all the money everyone spent.

Obviously if you don’t like anything being added then you’re not going to have a good time but that doesn’t make it a bad update lol.
I’m actually looking forward to everything you mentioned so I’m pumped.

Fingers crossed, maw intro skip button? I know, it’s asking a lot.

Revamped Torghast is fun although I haven’t played it on the PTR since they changed the empowerment mechanic and raised thei lvls.
-
New M+ Seasonal Affix is fun.
-
Tazaveesh is fun.
-
New Raid looks fun (didn’t do any PTR testing of it).
Your mileage may vary of course.

My archaeology hat is ready to go! And flying! But that is it!

For me, new M+ season, New Raid, certain class changes, more gear to hopefully allow me to solo more legion content for transmog

The way I see it is this: the patch itself is… well… it’s alright. It’s definitely not bad in itself, but in the context of the direction that Blizzard has taken the game with Shadowlands, I’m not really excited.
It’s actually a really decent x.1 patch in itself, probably even bigger than 7.1 (considering Nighthold came out a few months later), but I just don’t enjoy how it’s just a bunch of questing hubs with currencies and really not many MMORPG elements anymore.
The fact that they took over seven months to make it while only providing an explanation once in April (that being a vague “we wish we could get it out sooner, but COVID” response) was unacceptable. Maybe it did take them that long due to COVID, but at least keep a constant, open line of communication with the playerbase about the progress on the patch.
All in all, I’m probably not playing it. For those who still enjoy the game, though: enjoy!

hang on, i have a real response to this: here’s what i have to look forward to in the current game play and the new patch:
horde invasion of goldshire and the subsequent ENDLESS ganking by players with such higher gear score that i may as well be shooting a water pistol at them. i don’t know about you - but getting killed over and over and over and over and over again - is the very definition of FUN! you’d think after months and months of this, they would get bored - you’d be wrong.
but wait, there’s more! now i also get endlessly ganked in shadowlands by horde with superior gear but oddly never want to actually face me 1 v 1 in a fight (i know you’re SHOCKED at this, lol) - nah much more fun to get ganked over and over and over and over again.
so, in conclusion - here’s what i have to look forward to in this and the next patch:
i’ll spend more time working out and getting fit.
i’ll spend more time going to the beach.
i’ll spend more time learning and developing skill at various musical instruments (i can’t recommend this enough it is a trillion times more satisfying than any wow experience).
i’ll spend more time developing my side gigs.
so i really owe a debt of gratitude to the game and the increasingly bizarre player base - it really has improved my life.
the less time i spend playing - the better real life gets.
so, you players with the gearscore of 230 or whatever passes for good these days - the time you spend getting that is NOT WORTH IT!
if your BMI is as high as your gearscore - it’s not worth it!

Pretty much just the new raid and a couple new pvp talents. There is a new M+ season affix but it doesn’t make up for how terrible the SL dungeons are.

Or the fact you have to do double the dungeons to actually finish your meta.
How to cause burnout 101.

what is there to be excited about in patch 9.1?
The same thing there was to be excited about in 8.1… and 7.1…
It’s just the cycle… I’d be willing to bet that 10.1 does roughly the same thing
A decent pair of antlers for once… that’s about it…
To be fair. The raid is the only thing keeping me subbed right now.
Your thread is a list of things you don’t care for that you know will be in 9.1 but what exactly did you expect besides just “more”?
If you like dungeoneering or raiding then the mega dungeon and raid. Past that FOR ME I see nothing to be excited about, just more busy work to call new content so I have something to muck about with. [I honestly don’t want to lol]

I’m with ya OP.
I could care less about raiding.
Dungeon seems fine but I still think it’ll wind up being a speed clear. Then after that what is there to do if I don’t want to do M+ or raid?
FF14 for me.

I actually enjoyed Torghast in 9.0 so I am sure I will be hitting it again in 9.1.
I will do all of the new instances exactly one time. No more. I’m sick to death of repeating instances.
I will do the new Renown levels. Slowly.
I will acquire anima as I do other activities.
I will continue to do the covenant activities that interest me, and skip the ones that don’t.
After that, it’s back to alts and doing old content.
If I run out of these things to do (admittedly unlikely in terms of old content I haven’t done), I will stop playing until the next patch. Will I unsub until the next patch? I don’t know yet, will have to wait and see.
I will NOT grind another currency.
I will NOT endlessly repeat boring content for borrowed power.
I will almost certainly fall far behind cutting edge in terms of gear. Meh. I’m OK with that.

Serious answer?
I have to look outside of WoW to get excited about software during that same time frame. I’m with you. There’s nothing for me.
I’ve taken the Nestea Plunge, heh. It’s not bad, but I’ve just started.
