Confused about which is better. How do i know if i should take a hit in ilvl and stats for vers and does anyone have any guidance on what those numbers might be? 
what class are you playing? 30% vers is p much the standard for every class. at a certain point, main stat and stamina are more important though. im not sure what ilvl discrepancy that is but i imagine a 220 ilvl crit/mastery piece is vetter than a 197 ilvl haste/vers piece
It’s based on weight of the stat, how much per point do you need to keep going.
So at a certain point if you aren’t getting enough from the piece it’s better to go for something else at that point
Druid. I play all specs, currently sitting at 26% vers and trying to gear up.
Ok, so maybe a threshold of 20 ilvls is something to start with ?

I haven’t bothered doing DR math since I did heroic raiding in cata.
I mostly just plug in pieces and watch the percentages. (I have a weak aura that gives me my % in real time).
So if I notice my vers only changes by a .1 and my haste and crit will move by full 1+% so it makes more sense to get those
more vers the better.
Thats not true for all classes. Mastery for example, scales over three times faster for sub rogues than versatility. Mastery also effects sub rogues biggest dmg: Eviscerate. (Frequency and amplitude)
It’s a balance of how good are you at CD trading and how tanky you need to be for who you are playing with, your comp, and your play style.

You sure? I coulda swore when I was testing on my rogue, that unequipping all gear, that sub simply had a base increase of 11% mastery before gear, and the gear added the same ammount of mastery regardless of spec.
He means that mastery will increase the dmg more than vers would.
That 1 point of mastery equals 3 times more dps than 1 point of vers

Great, so I need to figure out what this is for my class/spec. 
What class spec, because monk it’s verse mastery because out vers is multiplicative instead of additive like everyone else.
So right now I am not increasing my vers enough, now I need more mastery.
So at 226 ilvl going over 30% was a waste
5% versatility is better than 50 intellect for a priest.
Not sure about the other classes.

Ilvl is always more valuable then stats
