I played the campaign and don’t know what the story is.
Granted I’ve never been one for story, but I can recall a few that I remember like MoP, Wrath, Legion.
Can someone explain why the Timeways to old content is relevant in the current expansion, because reading the 11.0.7 update makes it seem important
My take away was, we have a new ally in “the fight to come” being the earthen. The guy who tried to set up the earthen as an army for “the fight to come” will probably just be cannon fodder for a later raid. The spiders were working in a super soldier serum with bad juju. Xalatath was thwarted but is regaining her strength for “the fight to come” also anduin is a paladin again.
I kept putting air quotes on the fight to come because that’s it always seems to be.
Here are men. They are all sad, weak, and stupid. They spend all time telling strong women how awesome they are. Feet. Not all bugs are bad. Feet. Here are Earthen! They’re super boring and nobody cares. More feet. Look! It’s bad feet lady that nobody finds interesting! Remember her from Legion?!? Look at her feet! Anduin sucks. Spider babies are the best part of the expansion. Oh yeah, feet.
The last story beat I got was that Xal’atath had tricked the Nerubians into starting a fight with us so as to distract us from whatever she’s actually up to.
Floating crazy Void Elf foot enthusiast accosts bearded ladies and Dwarf men with her feet and tentacles while spiders eat each other and scarlet crusade lite have a civil war over the light switch.
Also Anduin being a sub for Faerin (because I forgot about that weird plot point)
None of these answers are helpful at all, so I’ll be chiming in. Starting with Legion. (OLD EXPANSION SPOILERS AHEAD)
Back during the Legion expansion, the Priest class order hall obtained an artifact called Xal’atath, Blade of the Empire. This particular weapon is rumored to be a claw from Y’sharrj. The weapon itself can speak and Xal’atath has had a hand into various decisions across Azeroth’s history at one point or another. Promising power to priests while eventually getting them killed at one point or another; all for the secret purpose of pleasing her masters. Eventually, alongside other artifacts, she was used to drain the corruptive power from Sargeras’ sword in Silithus.

In Battle for Azeroth, the knife is found once again and this time by the same priest (your champion). After a series of jobs, they willingly help Xal’atath obtain a body of her own to claim, which its sacrifice gave so willingly. She and Nzoth apparently had a bargain and was brought to him by the priest. Where the blade stayed with Nzoth, Xal’atath vanished in a void portal and never to be seen again.

Fast forward to Dragonflight and the Primal Incarnates are absolutely pissed at the Titans for a number of reasons, one of which being in stasis for 10-20,000 years (fully aware and unable to move, btw). They’re released thanks to their sibling’s sacrifice and swear a vendetta to the Titans. One of them, Iridikron, recovered a device hidden by Neltharion way back when. He then traveled to a timeline where Murazond was a thing and siphoned magic from Galakrond’s remains into the device. Iridikron swears his threat to the Titans and goes inside a void portal with Xal’atath on the other side.

News about a Harbinger is passed around and the important NPCs come to find out it’s Xal’atath’s title. Before TWW’s release, a Radiant Song erupted across Azeroth. These happen to be memories of past events that happened on her from important events to insignificant and annoying moments. The Ethereals once experienced this “Radiant Song” before the voidwalker Dimensius came to destroy their home planet. And since Xal’atath was once underneath Dimensius, it’s to be believed she wants this destruction to happen to Azeroth as well. Alleria, Magni, Khadgar and the others teleport-jump to the Isle of dorn and the city gets attacked all because of Xal’atath’s manipulation. City blows up thanks to the device given by Iridikron. Now they gotta stop her before any of her plans come to fruition.

This is the best that I could explain it. Hope it helps.
The main thing you have to remember about TWW is that it’s only the first part of the World-Saga trilogy.
Basically, Xalatath is building her power for her big power play and we and our allies are, as usual, clueless as to what is really going on.
All of the Nightborne. Vulpera. Azshara, The Jailer. Xal’atath. Brinthe. Majordomo Staghelm, The Primus, Worldsoul of Argus, whatever those new Avatar-looking bat people are, most female dragons in human form, those giants in Dragonflight.
I mean… it’s not my deal, I’m just noticing Blizzard’s.
