Please excuse my ignorance, I’ve only been back in WoW for like a week or so and tried Evoker on a whim for the DF free trial. I like it a lot so far, and will probably stick with it as a main going forward after I buy Dragonflight in a day or two.
What is the stated reasoning for Dracthyr having a 4 minute cooldown on their Soar ability? It sounds like a flying version of the Worgen Running Wild ability, and that does not have a cooldown of any kind on it AFAIK(did it used to?), so I am confused.
The only “legitimate” concern I recall being voiced is the advantage that Dracthyr would have over other classes in completing old content.
But with the introduction of Dragonriding into old content, this becomes a mute point.
Stay tuned for Soar to have zero cooldown, and Dracthyr being able to utilize all of their dragonriding upgrades without needing a dragonriding mount. It’s definitely happening… soon-ish.
No, it’s reduced by 1 minute in continents you’ve explored. In the Dragon Isles the base CD is 2min, so it’s 1 min there. In the old zones it’s 5 minutes base, so 4 minutes once explored.
The official reasoning for why Soar is a lesser version of dragonflying, especially in the old world, is because it would give dracthyr a “drastic efficiency advantage over characters of other races when doing non-Dragon Isles content, whether that’s Chromie Time quests, clearing old raids for transmog, pet battling, etc.”
That’s a direct quote from the blue post regarding the nerf. It used to be faster in the old world.
Not to mention the druid’s ability to portal all over the old zones using the Emerald Dreamway.
But a racial flight would be too good if it could go twice as fast as an epic mount for 1-2 minutes as long as you’re constantly pointed towards the ground.
