What is the point of Shadowflame?

As the title asks, what is the purpose of this spell? It does nothing for damage, which means it does nothing for aggro, tanking with it. I generate infinitely more aggro just tab target searing pain, the damage from Shadowflame isnt enough to pull threat in an AoE pack.

So just make it like a tanking ability, make it generate more threat while being a low damage cleave ability, but this issue is…

Aggrend has already been seen saying they are trying to be really careful with AoE Threat on tanks, and that some tanks already generate more than they’d like. Which to me just reads as, ‘Shadowflame will never receive any kind of damage or threat tuning’ and also Immolation Aura in Phase 3 might be DoA, depending on what shares it’s rune slot.

You’re definitely not using it for damage outside of maybe that pack of non elites at the end of armory for laughs. It can’t be used to hold or generate a decent amount of threat.

It’s the only rune warlocks got this phase that isn’t a passive and it’s worthless. Feelsbadman.

Some classes have like 12 useless runes. You will be fine.

Yeah, were not hurting by any means from this, but I just wanna know what the logic of implementing it was? What was the thought process? As I’m sure the classes with 12 useless runes would also like to ask.

My wand does more damage, its a mildly tough rune to get too. Drugs are bad M’kay.

They aren’t as useless as shadowflame don’t kid yourself

Show me one that’s restricted to a frontal cone doing 50-60 damage and 24 dot
And has a 12 second cooldown

pretty sure it’s meant as a minor AoE for threat while tanking
kind of like thunderclap
not saying it’s good, but that’s probably the reasoning behind it

It’s sharing the Bracer Slot with:

Summon Felguard: Summons a Felguard under the command of the Warlock.
The Felguard benefits from all talents and effects that trigger from or benefit any of your other Demon minions.

and

Unstable Affliction: Shadow energy slowly destroys the target, causing [60 * 5 * (6.568597 + 0.672028 * Level + 0.031721 * Level * Level) / 100] damage over 15 sec. In addition, if the Unstable Affliction is dispelled it will cause [60 * 9 * (6.568597 + 0.672028 * Level + 0.031721 * Level * Level) / 100] damage to the dispeller and silence them for 5 sec. Only one Unstable Affliction or Immolate per Warlock can be active on any one target.

To fill an empty rune slot

Edited: further clarifying I mean the slot in the rune page, not on gear.

Which is sad, because they clearly have the way to make damage not generate threat (see Priests PW:Shield talent in Wrath: Reflective Shield; no threat or Binding Heal; low threat).
