What is the point of Quest Log Limit?

Serious question for the development team.

What even is the point, at this stage in the game, of limiting the quest log?

I am sooo tired of running out of quest log space. This is literally the only MMO I play where it even becomes a problem.

Should make it possible to hold as many quests as you want

Simple question should be an easy answer.

I agree, there is really no reason for it other than to be arbitrary.

At least it’s not 25 anymore.

Pretty sure it’s a programming issue considering there’s over 34k quests in the game.

Everquest 2 has more.

way more.

And they dont see the need to limit the log as restrictively as Warcraft

In 20 years they’ve only increased it once and it was only by like 10

Meanwhile we’ve got 8 expansions worth of quests lol

Even if it was just 100, it would be helpful

I’m guessing it’s for a couple of reasons:

  1. Because people tend to lose their own quests a lot.
  2. Might be a coding thing.

“Even,” lol.

If we had 50 quests, a majority of them would just be sitting around collecting dust. No one is actively working on that many things. It would just be wasted data all around.

The game tracks your progress with all completed quests and has no trouble with this.

I think the problem is related to your quest progress for currently active quests actually gets broadcast to the group (it’s why when you mouse over a quest mob you can see your party members’ quest progress). If it had to broadcast 1000 quest progresses per party member, the servers would get overloaded fast.

That being said, it’s not that big of a deal. The game can be set to only broadcast quest progress for the current zone and that fixes that problem.

If I’m remembering right, things like this have always been the given reason. However, I also think the current limit is a little restricting. First, there are some quests DESIGNED to sit in your log for no less than 3-4 weeks (the raid skip ones). Second…

This is really where I wind up getting caught. If you go back and do older content – or say there was something you missed and you decide to goof around with it – some long older quest chains can be REALLY HARD TO FIGURE OUT WHERE YOU LEFT OFF… For example, my Death Knight didn’t exist in Legion. She is slowly working on the really long class hall quest chain. I might go weeks or months at a time without doing anything with it, but if I abandon whichever quest I’m on, it would be a complete PITA to figure out where to pick it up again.

So some quests sit in my log for legit reasons.

I say there is too much quests in capitals, why cant we skip those quests on alts? Once i finished all my Valdrakken quests on my main it was peaceful, untill i logged into alt and saw 15 quests in valdraken and alextraza and shanandris speaking to me every minute, like stop!

I played through all that on my main and some of the quests are not relevant to current content apart from story, but ive already done them once.

There should be a single quest at start of each new patch, that offers you rewards for prev patch quests if you did them once on your main already, and if you want them even, for xmog mostly i assume.

I think there was 2 increases. The first increase was I believe way back to around BC and the limit was raised to deal with people complaint. Or was it the daily quest limit? I can’t remember LOL

The limit was applied to stop people hoarding completed quests at the end of an expansion and then turning them in after the launch of the next expansion to get a headstart in experience.

They did bump it a little. But I would like to see it at 50. It can get frustrating having to abandoned half-empty quests.

Yo, just do your damn quests bro.

thats a silly reason to limit quest log capacity imo. just limit the XP old content gives if your max level

Well yea, but theres a LOT of reasons why quests stack up. Weeklies. You go to do an old xpac and come out to a new patch…

Honestly it doesnt even matter. The current log is just too restrictive so just saying " do them" is yawn

Probably just to make the quest log look pretty. Having a scroll log of 34,000 quests would be annoying. While yes it would be the players choice, some people respect their work and want it to look good regardless of players personal choice. Imagine painting something, then someone to buy it just to add ketchup to it right infront of you cause they thought it looked better. Somethings are just that, a point of pride.
