I’m leveling a Frost DK right now and I saw that spell in the book and I’m like “How is a spell like that on a 3 minute cooldown relevant?” I mean it’s just weird, it doesn’t seem to synergize with anything, doesn’t provide a buff, nothing. Just a burst of AoE damage on a 3 minute cooldown.
A strong attack that is heavily nerfed in a PvP situation.,.
I’ve always wondered this too.
It’s awesome looking but 3 min cd?
I would love if they reworked it to have some synergy with other abilities
It’s also that there’s no rune or runic power cost. There’s no setup, no cost, no rotation to use with it, nothing. Just “Boom, huge damage” every three minutes on demand. It feels more like a trinket than a true class ability.
The leggo to have it stun makes it at least utility. But yea its damage is duper nerfed in pvl
It would be neat if it were an ability like any other pet works, like the gargoyle.
Have it circle above and shoot icebolts at the enemy and slows down enemy movement speed and increase frost damage to the target for Five Seconds.
Yeah it seems like a very lazily designed ability. The only thing the player has to be mindful of is direction.
It’d be neat if it was affected by how much RP we have when we cast it, like maybe it will go further or hit harder or something.
Or it’d be cool if its functionality changed based on whether we were dual wielding or using a 2 hander, to make that choice more meaningful too.
It was originally a Frost artifact ability in Legion. Then it was converted to a talent in BFA. Now it’s baseline for Frost. It feels weird having it be a part of the default kit because Frosts other offensive cooldowns are short or moderate and synergize well that way. It’s just damage application with no mechanics whatsoever. Between that, Death and Decay, and Death Coil, Frost is starting to feel like Windwalker, having more abilities but less mechanics.
Honestly I like it. Yeah it blows for pvp but In mythic+ it’s a huge shot of aoe damage that takes no set up. It will only get stronger with the legendary that reduces CD and adds utility.
It takes a little setup to get the maximum out of it, but no setup to actually use the spell. Like before you should use it at the end of your Pillar of Frost window when your strength is the highest.
I love Fwf and am so glad its now baseline.
One of maybe two things blizz has done well with frost dks.
Couldn’t care less that it doesn’t ‘synergize’ with our toolkit and is just on-demand damage…it’s awesome and is the coolest looking ability in the game. Technically it does synergize a little bit in the sense you want to use it at the end of Pillar of Frost for max damage.
So glad it’s baseline.
Its part of your burst rotation! Just be glad you don’t have to spec for it anymore so its a solid cool down when you need it.
Why are people questioning our useful “does cool sh!t” ability.
To me it has become the signature ability that says there is a Frost DK in your group. I think every spec needs one of those abilitys.
With destro locks you see green fire.
Paladins you see wings.
UDK you see army being cast before the pull.
Frost we have a massive dragon that plows over everything (personally I think it’s the best one)
You need to line it up at the end of your POF buff/FC /trinket buff for max potency so there is a bit of paying attention required.
I always felt like it should summon a frost wyrm that actually comes down and fights at your side for a fixed duration. This would at least justify the three minute CD.
I honestly was expecting that. Fire mages for dragobs breath actually have a dragon head appear that breaths fire. Should be like that for frost dk, but with different colours obviously
We have the dragon head with BOS.
People complain about not having enough baseline abilities/class pruning, so they add more spells, then people complain about the spells lmao
And no doubt if they gave Frostwyrm Fury more interaction with our other spells there would be some people hating that and wanting easy on-demand burst.
There’s also a new thread complaining we now have too many spells…seriously, I can see being a Blizz dev being pretty thankless job…no matter what you do there will be someone making new threads complaining.
