So far the best ive done is fishing combined with queuing for bfa islands and selling the transmog drops
( glad I moved my top hats before white and gray transmog became a thing)

Buying a WoW Token.
Quite often minerals and herbs from past expansions sell for more than current stuff does. During Shadowlands I found Pandaria metal particularly lucrative. The XP you earn speeds your levelling too.
Sell the junk in your bags.
Figure out market on the AH.
Otherwise yeah, just buy a token from Blizzard.
SO whats lucrative now
Check the AH.
It’s buying a token. They destroyed the transmog market when they made everything account wide, while the playerbase doesn’t grow, so that’s a no-go when the drops and crafts aren’t worth it. The mats are of no more value than vendor sell price. The dungeon drop amounts are a joke.
Some may shrug it off but when thinking about a new players experience, they run into that wall with hardly any in-game method of getting the gold so that sends them to the store. That feels like a mobile game. A subscription based mobile game. Not good.
Here is the real and best method of getting gold while leveling…
Stop spending money…
Auction house.
Questing.

I was actually surprised by this since I hadn’t actually leveled a toon in a long while. I just finished leveling 3 toons this past week and between selling all the BoE stuff, I came out like 60k~ richer. Granted that was between the 3 of them but for doing absolutely nothing out of the ordinary I thought it was neat. I did stop and kill rares and what not and had a helm that sold for about 15k. Either way, it was a good deal for not really even trying.
Ye, sometimes come across a boe worth like 20k or something. I imagine most people don’t like cluttering up their bags and mailbox and just opt to vendor it and maybe that’s the play but it’s neat to sell a big piece from time to time.
Reducing gold outflows is not the same as increasing gold inflow.
Might work for your bottom line, but it doesn’t answer the OP’s question. Revenues and expenditures are two separate lines on the balance sheet. OP is asking about revenue and your answer is about expenditure.
Farm collectibles and transmogs from past expansions. Current expansion stuff is selling like doodoo.
Swiping will always be the most effective
Get two gathering professions, then sell everything you gather and all the greens/blues you find on the AH.
I can tell you… but you might not like it.
Make a druid.
Level in Cataclysm Chromie time.
Take Mining and Herbalism and train cataclysm herbalism and mining.
Now you have a choice of which zone to start in: Choose Vashj’ir.
Do the Vashj’ir questline for about 10 minutes to get the Sea Legs buff.
You will now find that it stacks with Druid aquatic form… multiplicatively.
What this means is that you’re looking at about a 500% swim speed. To put this in perspective it is far faster to swim with aquatic form than to fly.
Now go swim a route around the zone collecting Cata herbs and ore. You will find that you level extremely fast, but also are taking in huge amounts of ore and herbs since you’re moving so ridiculously fast and ‘mounting’ is instant cast.
Not only does Cata ore sell for more than Dragonflight ore, but you can also collect mats towards pumping out Sandstone Drake mounts with Alchemy.
