What is the mist?

Other than a creepy m. Night shamanmalan movie.

I haven’t been to pandaria yet but im leveling a mistweaver monk. About all i know is that the mists keep pandaria hidden from the world and that they can be used both for healing and to disable enemies.

So, lore-wise, what is the mist? Where does it originate from? Is it old god magic or nature magic? What other things can it do, and other than hiding their island how are the pandaren connected to it?

The mists were created when the Pandaren Emperor from 10,000 years ago sacrificed himself to save the continent from the Sundering.

I know I get nature locked when interrupted on my monk while healing.

So it is nature. Thats bout all I can say.

The mist that hid the island is just plain ol’ vanilla mist. The only thing really mythical about it was how thick it was and it never dissipated. The “mist” that Monks use is Chi or spirit.

Not long before the Sundering the last emperor of Pandaria, Xaohao, tried to protect his land from the coming demons. So he set out on a journey to cleanse himself and find the answer. During this he imprisoned six of the seven great sha beneath the earth while cleaning up his own spirit.

But he couldn’t get rid of his pride. The greatest of the sha, the Sha of Pride, is the source of the mist. Xaohao didn’t realize it, but he hid their land using an Old God’s power. It’s not harmful, pandaren actually have just sailed out of the mist and left.

The mists that monks use are entirely different though. That’s created from the chi spirit energy within ourselves. It’s a version of Life magic.

Thanks for the replies, i had a feeling it had something to do with the old gods (pretty much everything in wow seems to connect to them in one way or another).

and it wasn’t a M Night Shamalyan film, it was a Frank Darabont film based on a Stephen King story.

Just as a clarification, The Mist was NOT M. Night Shamamalalaman’s film. It is directed by Frank Darabont and was originally a novella by Stephen King.

Dammit. Beaten by seconds!

Ah, for some reason i thought it was, had his directing feel to it i guess. Such a pointless and heartbreaking ending.
