I want to turn my druid over to the Kul Tirus race when they become available and I want her roleplay theme to be, using the basis of life (blood) as a way to heal people. The idea is that she harvests life giving blood and its essence and gives it to others. (Slightly inspired by those witch spelled herbivore animals that feed on flesh and blood in the haunted forests) However the only time I seen blood magic in this game are the vampires, some undead scientists, alchemy, and for some reason the Defias Brotherhood. I assume its some ancient magic and dont druids normally have to sacrifice something to preserve others anyways? So does anyone have any two-cents for whatever the heck blood magic is?
I measure it by any magic content in their blood, or if you have vials of something else’s blood. So for an example, blood elves and nightborne. They are walking conduits of magic and mana.
There’s also rituals and blood crystals you can use to enhance powers. Harmless blood magic exists in-game, we just happen to encounter everyone that chooses to not be harmless about it.
It’s really more of a troll thing.
Care to explain how? I mean I know hakkar and other worshiped god like beings were requiring humanoid sacrifice, and the trolls do have regeneration with their own blood. However other than that I dont see any literal blood casting. Granted I have never played any of the new troll content so who knows maybe they literally are just bathing in blood and playing blood tennis.
There’s also that Blood Troll tribe buisness going on in Nazmir and their spells and atttacks usually involve a lot of blood spurting all over the place. Messiest magic ever.
Just looked them up. They sound interesting. An ancient troll tribe that was malevolent and practiced exclusively blood magic and hanged out with the most vile of animals. I wouldn’t say its exclusively troll considering there are some other groups of people who use blood magic as I stated. Im trying to figure out what it really is, and how its used. I know it can enhance and help people, and it can be used as a literal weapon like a projectile. I should watch someone do the bloodtroll quests since I dont have a horde character.
Granted they sound a lot like the group of ancient malevolent barbaric humans on kul tiras who used ruinic magic and life bending to create inanimate armies. In terms of being an old enemy that is a re-emerging plot device. Actually now that I think about it, those same ancient humans are the new druids for the kul tiras humans, are the new druids for the trolls blood related?
no, the zandalari trolls are not related to the blood trolls.
Could try looking up the San’layn and what they do with the blood magic. They’re vampires in the sense they feed on blood and your whole life essence so I guess that can count as lifeblood?
Then there’s the blood elf bloodmages that use demon blood in their transportation crystals back in the blasted lands. They also put a demon hunter back together.
I looked into it and from what I gather definitely an ancient form of unconventional life based magic. Often known as a torment of life because it does involve the use of your own or anothers blood (its probably painful). So the life binder would hate it but I don’t think it would be against druidism since like I said druids have to sacrifice something to an extent to be able to heal others.
The Defias Brotherhood use it basically because they are that edgy and desperate for power to fuel their revenge that they hurt themselves to use blood magic.
Also it is shown that there are classes right now that use some blood magic to heal or cause harm or enhance. Bloodlust for shamans, Bloodthirst for warriors, Bloodboil/blood maggots for deathknights, vampiric touch for priests. I am not sure if life drain is blood based because I always viewed it as soul based spell for warlocks but then again I am not sure where the lines are drawn between life essence and someones literal soul. However I guess there is a link somewhere because of how the entire bloodline of the orcs was corrupted and controlled by taking the pitlord blood.
I will say not to use game mechanics to justify lore too often, otherwise you get millions of soldiers who can leap 40ft and people constantly growing and shrinking.
That said the best class to ‘look at’ is a blood death knight since they are described as weaving flesh, blood and bone to bolster their defence meaning that they are using some form of blood magic.
Shaman bloodlust and Warrior’s Bloodthirst are more mechanics with fitting names over anything else. Life Essence is Spirit is Chi, many names for multiple things. All in all however it breaks down that the term Druid reflects those that studied under Cenarion and the Wild Gods, Gilneans have Harvest Witches and the Kultirans have Thornspeakers, Life Magic practitioners and for the KT, who have some form of Shapeshifting that I dont think has an in lore explination
