What is the Faction/Class/Prof combo able to use the most mounts?

I have been having a HUGE amount of trouble with the mount achievements lately, often having to log into a large portion of my almost 50 characters just to get the tracker to update, and most recently culminating in a long chain of tickets only to find out that my Stormpike Battle Ram/Frostwolf Snarler is bugged and the GMs are unable to fix its inability to count in the mount tracker. I’m at the end of my rope and ready to start and level a brand new character just to have a surefire toon to log on to every time I need to force an update.

I would calculate this myself, but what’s really strange is that I can’t figure out why the character I have with the highest mount count by a large margin is the way that she is. It’s just a 54 Tauren Paladin I’ve barely touched since Cata with Jewelcrafting/Mining, and I don’t have any jewelcrafting mounts or, obviously, any Legion class mounts, or single-character PvP mounts. My Tauren Druid Engineer has more profession mounts than she has class mounts!

Clearly I am missing something important about how mounts are counted, so I would love if somebody had an idea for WoW mount equivalent of a Pokémon HM slave.

As far as I know, the reasons why a character may not get counted for a mount are:

  • wrong faction - an alliance toon won’t get credit for a horde mount
  • wrong class - there’s some paladin-only, DK-only, and warlock-only quested mounts, and only the right class can use them. (The class hall mounts from Legion are not this type, btw; other classes can’t ride them but they still get counted in stats, from what I’ve heard.)
  • wrong profession - some (not most) of the crafted mounts require you to have the profession to use the mount.

And that’s pretty much it. So your tauren paladin gets credit for all the mounts any of your other toons have learned that aren’t restricted for one of those reasons. The only JC mounts I know of are the panthers that aren’t profession locked, and there’s only about 3-4 paladin-only mounts that I know of, so the implication is that you may have a bunch of horde-only mounts that your alliance toons can’t get credit from.

warcraftmounts.com will let you load information for each of your toons and give you its count for each of them, which may help you figure out what’s going on with that.

Good luck!

If your going to be grinding for more: Paladin for the class, they get 4 mounts from their class hall (instead of everyone else 1 or 3) and an additional horse from the argent tournament in Icecrown.
