its like blizzard is punishing people for playing that game. i’ve been really hesitant to make use of my harbinger crests because the amount i can get total is hard capped. and i dont want to waste em on something when there is a chance i might find something better, making my investment of a limited resource something that might gimp me permanently.
what was the thought process on this? is there some reason this makes sense?
They’re telling you that you may only get enough crests to upgrade X amount of times during an entire season.
Then, when the new season comes, all of that gear is almost instantly obsolete as are the crests used to upgrade it.
It’s… really silly and mind-boggling because it discourages experimentation and change. Like, if you dump all of your crests into getting tank stuff… you’re not going to want to try being a raid healer because that means upgrading a new set of gear which you won’t have the crests for because you already spent them and you’re not allowed any more the entire season.
As far as Conquest and Blood Tokens, those are PvP rewards, and PvP is a wee bit different. You have to keep the playing field level because you have players competing with each other.
It’s not even FOMO, in fact it’s the opposite of FOMO.
It’s actually in your best interest to not even bother with the crests and just wait for next season when you can get gear that vastly outperforms anything you could spend crests on today.
The complaint is that they are giving you an upgrade system, but then they tell you “you may only apply X number of upgrades per an entire season”.
Previous systems were like “you can only make X progress per week” and that worked fine. But now we have that PLUS the “only do X amount of upgrades in a single season”… it’s really kinda stupid.
It’s the sad part of being a consumer. We want it all. Then, eventually… you realize it’s just not possible. Even if you had unlimited money, you will still run out of time in your life.
So, choices have to be made. Do I spend my most valuable resource… my time… on this thing or this other thing… or do I just wait
I get it. I do this all day long in my head. It’s just a part of the human experience
“Cap: 2000. Weekly Limit: 0/250” (or whatever it is)
By stating it as a “Seasonal Limit”, you mislead the player into thinking that’s a hard cap for the entire season and nowhere in the game does it say this goes up each week.
The idea is you aren’t upgrading every piece you get to max level every time you swap. This way you swap less have another path to upgrading and like always have a system where it incentives continued play since you know, it’s an MMO and requires others to do. Second it prevents tryhards from blasting through things instantly or finding progression.
That’s not how it works. After you have used crests to upgrade a slot, you only need to use valor stones to upgrade any other piece of gear in that slot up to that item level.
I once even took a BAD trinket from the vault because it was higher item level then my current trinkets. Doing that, I was suddenly able to upgrade the trinkets I already had up to that level only using valorstones. You can also do the same trick with crafted gear. Don’t have crests to upgrade a shoulder piece? Slap in a piece of 619 crafted gear, now you can upgrade it all the way to 619 without using a single crest.
The cap exists to balance content which can be done essentially infinitely with content that cannot. Prior to the upgrade system, the system was basically that 99% of gear from the actual content itself was useless, you were just doing M+ for the weekly cache.
It’s not a weekly cap because that is punishing to alts and people who take a break for whatever reason.
You are definitely preaching to the choir with that comment.
I basically informed myself watching kelani and videos about how to increase your item level that discussed the system in detail. But yeah, sucks to have to rely on a third party.
Blizz puts no importance or consequence on “If I find something better”. It’s a game where no one is concerned with our progress but us. Our scores, gear, mounts, etc impress no one but us. It’s a currency used to improve gear to make things easier on yourself, and will be worthless in 15 months… or less.
I’ve blown through thousands of them, no regrets. I am enjoying myself, and have never “gimped” myself in a game. I think you may be taking it far more serious than it is. Relax. Breathe. Spend some. Enjoy them before they are useless.
