So, what is the canon lore reason that NPC heroes like Vul’jin, Wrynn, Saurfang, Cairne and many others aren’t resurrected/revived when they die?
Seriously, with Vul’jin and Saurfang specifically, they were surrounded by healers. Saur could have been ressed by Anduin, Thrall, and Zekhan all are classes capable of resurrecting him after his defeat by Sylv.
So, why aren’t these prominent characters revived?
I personally always thought it was true death and untimely death.
True Death is when you meet your Destiny, and not avoiding it… and Untimely… is when a murloc kills you, for which you can be revived.
There’s always nercomancy aswell
Even Light-necromancy now
Our constant ability to resurrect isn’t really a canon thing in the story. The only exception to this is Demon Hunters as the player character DH has a Demon soul.

Very true, hell one of the DK’s quest line is the resurrect fallen heroes.

They should just revive at an alter. It only costs a few hundred gold.
I was seeing that as canon for all player characters, that they have an abnormal soul which allows them to resurrect, even without the aid of a healer.
But it is canon that the healer classes can raise/return the recently deceased. You see it multiple times in game, usually during events or raids.
Resurrection spells, the way they work in-game, are not canon in lore.

Resurrection that healers do in the story is more like reviving pokemon or giving a senzu bean to a DB character. Like what Anduin does in the BFA cinematic, those people were out for the count but not technically dead at that point. Like once you dead you dead as far as the story goes.
Which doesn’t make much sense since there are multiple times in game where you’re resurrected by an NPC, or NPCs are healing and ressing other NPCs.
One of the most prominent in my mind is the Lich King fight when Tirion mass resurrects the raid after the Lich King kills and begins to corrupt them.
well, this was possible because their souls were still attached to their bodies i assume (held by frostmourne in place)
I either see them as near-death experiences or so recently deceased that it’s still possible to jolt them back to life. Like, IRL if your heart stops you are technically “dead” but you can be brought back if it’s done quickly enough and there isn’t significant damage to your body.
In the example of Saurfang it probably wouldn’t be outlandish to assume that a blast from undetectable death magic probably twisted his body in such a way that revival was impossible. Like, imagine every organ inside him instantaneously started rotting.
Ok, now stop imagining that. Because it’s gross.

But we didn’t even get to have fun storming the castle.
Typically an exception to the rule and this is probably because Lich King kept the players souls there. Additionally when you die to Argus it was Titan powers that resurrected people. Again these are more exceptions to how things play out. When Saurfang died there is no one there to lift him back up, no Bwomsandi there to bring him back to life or special sword keeping him around.
With Saurfang I can give the benefit of the doubt, that whatever spell was used on him completely severed his mortal coil.
Less so with Voljin, you’d think our top healers would be all over helping him survive, same with Cairne, though the poison from the Grimtotem tribe might have been created to prevent healing.
Not sure if this is what was initially intended for his story but if you do the Horde questline with Vol’jin in BFA he essentially spells out that malevolent forces from behind the scenes were conspiring at every turn to get him killed that day. Apparently, the fact that he didn’t even detect that random felguard was part of the conspiracy, and possibly so too was the fel-wound that it gave him.
Of course, it’s possible he’s just lying to make himself look cooler than he actually is. No-one wants to admit they got killed by a felguard.
Very true, and I am waiting for the resolution of the quest line.
Though it seems whatever darkness that over took and made him name Sylv as leader of the horde, is also what she now draws power from.
We also don’t know what other gifts she was granted from Hela.
