That would be my #1 but I think of it as so much more than a sports movie that I won’t put it in that category. Really, by the ending, it doesn’t matter who wins because you know none of those women are going to win . . .they are having their dream of playing pro baseball taken away. The wistfulness of the ending, with these elderly women who loved the game every bit as much as guys and wanted to play even if it meant barely getting paid and all: It kills me every time.
Plus Tom Hanks is as good in that movie as in any movie he’s ever done. And his chemistry with Gina Davis is perfect.
