What is the best Horde race for Story?

Hey, Alliance player here. I’m thinking of leveling my first Horde toon since Cata, and was hoping for some advice from the people who main the faction.

So I’m going to level a mage. So keep that in mind when picking a race.

I’m just wondering what the best Horde race is to experience the Legion, and BFA story with? What race has the most impact on the stories, what race fits the story well Ect…?

Please explain your reasoning as well.

Ps. I would also preferably like a race that has a cool starting zone. Good quests, fun story, rich with lore Ect…

Pps. Not a HUGE fan of orcs…

I also don’t have access to any of the allied races… Again, first Hordie since Cata. I haven’t done any of the rep or unlocks for the Horde allied races. Original races only.

I mean Tauren are pretty rad dudes. You got Highmountain in Legion and the whole Baine thing in BfA

Oh wait derp you said you wanted a mage. in that case. Darkspear

Blood elf always a safe bet…Although if you are choosing the best “race for story” they are all pretty good. Don’t be a racist bro.

I agree. I like Tauren a lot. Easily in my top 3 favourite races in the game. But they can’t be mages unfortunately.

Yeah oops I fixed my post

Orcs. They’re very much the nucleus of the Horde even more than humans are for the Alliance so if you’re going to play through the Horde storylines they’re a safe bet.

Well, I ask for the best race for the story, simply because I know some races get better treatment than others.

Take the Alliance for example. Gnomes simply don’t have a story. They have a starting zone which leads you into a dungeon at L30, but that’s about it. They have 1 significant lore character, and he only started making a slash in Legion, then they killed him off in BFA…

Worgen also don’t really have a story. Genn Greymane is the only lore appropriate character anymore. His Daughter Tess shows up in the Rogue story line in Legion, but that’s about it. We haven’t taken back their home, we haven’t seen many of the faces from the starting zone. Ect…

I’m only assuming that some of the Horde races get the same treatment.

I’ll clarify a bit. I suggested Darkspear mostly because of their involvement thanks to Vol’jin. He’s in the starting zone. He shows up in WoD I think. You watch him fall as warchief then later see him in BfA.

There is also Zappy Boi to help represent the “nice” side of the horde that the orcs try to claim they are. Without actually playing an orc.

Wait a minute did he die? I thought he was injured and went down the route of mechanization.

WELLLL if you’re talking cataclysm, the main story of that expansion is the Horde trying to “make their place” in the world and watching how that goes. Although many different races can take part, the orcs with Garrosh are the ones leading the charge.

I guess he doesn’t die, but he’s still made irrelevant.

Now hol’ up…

mekkatorque becomes the leader of the Mechagnomes though.
Hes now the king of all gnomes.

I’d say Gnome fans got a massive win this expansion.
The only win they’ve ever got XD

Right, and still doesn’t have a story. He’s not DOING anything. No Gnome is DOING anything right now. Even the Mechagnomes are just sitting on their island picking up trash that floats up on shore.

I wouldn’t really say they’re apart of the over arching story at all. Mechagon was put in the game simply to introduce Mechagnomes as an allied race, and that’s about it.

It might have been side content but it was still a massive gameplay and lore dump that the Gnomes got.
If a race I liked got that I would be very happy.

You’re right. If that were any of the races I like, I would be happy too. It’s great for Gnome lovers.

That being said, it’s still side content that can be 100% avoided.

I created this thread because I’m looking for a race that fits the main story, not necessarily the side story. I brought up the gnomes as a talking point for how some races are less impactful in the main story than others, and expressed by concern for the Horde races. And that’s why I’m asking for suggestions on which Horde race has a decent amount of lore, and involvement in the main story of the game.

Either way, back on topic please. Any other suggestions, or anyone siding with anyone else here?

So far we have one for Trolls, one for Blood Elves, and one for Orcs.

I guess trolls maybe?
Or Blood Elves.

The Orcs get the most attention.

And don’t you forget it.

I think undead have a great story, and they’re fun to play. You start off coming to grips with your undeadness (and some of those who were raised at the same time), then you go through all of northern Eastern Kingdoms doing undead stuff for the undead. It’s a fun series of quests.

yeah but then you’re kinda stuck with the whole Sylvanas stuff lore wise.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing though. It happened in the story, and I want to experience the story. Good or bad, I want to be apart of it.

You could say the same thing about Blood Elves being crack addicts, and the downfall of Kael’thas and trying to summon Kil’Jaeden into the world.

Or the Orcs and all of the invading they do, and the Garrosh “debacle”.

Every race has it’s dark past.
