What is the add on that I see people using that tells them when and when not to soak?

Okay.

You can track private auras with weakauras.

Neltharion had private auras. How did people handle the mechanics on Mythic?

With weakauras.

Larodar’s Flash Fire is a private aura?

Okay.

Do I have a weakaura tracking it?

Absolutely.

Okay, then why are the comments on that WoWHead page talking about how everyone disliked private auras for the aforementioned mechanics? And why does the author explicitly state

New Abilities Added to Private Auras

These Private Auras will not be able to be assigned by Weakauras.

Surely you can see why this is the conclusion people made?

Because the people making the comments don’t understand it either.

Keep in mind that a ton of chronic posters on wowhead barely even play the game.

That’s because the playerbase has some people that are really really stupid and changing the icon won’t magically make them not stupid.

From Raider,io:

Private auras are a way for Blizzard to hide the information that Addons or WeakAuras would use to track whether a player was afflicted by a specific debuff, or targeted by a specific mechanic. While the player will still be seeing the debuff on their UI themselves, a WeakAura or BossMod won’t be able to detect this debuff for a custom-made visual or auditory warning. It also prevents developers from creating tools that will automatically assign markers to players with these debuffs, or use a pre-written list to give multiple players different assignments based on their position in the list.

Just like you can go circle to square? It doesn’t change anything.

Sure it does. There’s circle to square but you can have “off shoots” for the markers.

Like circle can have 1 2 3 around it and square can have 4 5 6 around it.

Also why are you so defensive on this? It was a suggestion.

This is either very poorly worded (being generous) or just wrong (being more honest).

Anybody who did Mythic Neltharion with the Liquid WA listing Hearts players knows that.

With no substantiation from you, I’m inclined to believe; the majority opinion, the WoWHead Author, and the official statement from Raider,io.

:person_shrugging: I have no clue, myself, so if you can substantiate, by all means I’ll make sure to spread the word.

Go download any of the number of good Amirdrassil weakaura packs, and you’ll even see they have Private Auras specifically listed as to where and how you want them displayed.

Without context I have no clue what this means. I did see them mentioned on wag,io, but from the wording it seems like they’re just debuff tracking…

…which, as per Raider,io:

Is essentially just moving it to a more convenient location, like I used to with MSW stacks.

…add a sound effect to the weakaura.

You don’t even know how weakauras works, do you?

I give the tank the condom, cuz they’re the groups protection.

Do you? You don’t need a WeakAura to track debuffs. You can use it to help do so, but it’s about one of the most baseline features you could use. Singling out a buff or debuff to display with a different icon or larger more pronounced icon is not using the API to feed moment to moment mechanic information, which is what’s in question.

Perhaps you don’t know quite how powerful WA is.

That’s over complicating something that’s not really an issue.

I’m not being defensive. Being critical of a terrible suggestion isn’t me being defensive.

I still have ptsd from that fight.

Literally spat my coffee out once I got this statement right here.

to you /shrug

you think it’s terrible others don’t think so. /shrug

All I know is it would be nice to have 1 marker with numbers to explain things rather than 6 different shapes.

This is how I feel about encounter addons and WAs that achieve the same. To be fair, I don’t raid CE anymore and probably never will, but for what I experience I feel like the game does a good enough job of telegraphing and organically explaining mechanics to me during an encounter. I think anyone who suggests these addons/WAs are ‘mandatory’ is kinda putting the cart before the horse, in that they’re now so used to having this additional information displayed that they no longer have the ability to process the ‘default’ information without them. Hence, a crutch.

Additionally, I did use DBM a long time ago (for Wrath up through WoD), until I eventually removed it because I got tired of it needing to be updated at least once a week if I didn’t want it to automatically turn itself off. And I realized afterward that I was able to perform well enough without it, so I never looked at replacing it.

We’ve been getting CE every tier for years. The only encounter I’ve ever run into where I really felt an addon was required was Mythic Queen Azshara.
