What is the actual point of cooking?

Im running around old dalaran looking at the foods I can buy…and remembering the foods I can buy in BFA and could in Legion…and honestly there doesnt seem to be any REAL reason to take or level cooking at all.
Am I missing something?

I like to cook, so i can have something to eat.

+100 on a stat does help in raids. Food Buffs are good.

I did level up MOP cooking, but only because I thought the party cart type things were cool to look at.
But outside of raiding, is there any reason to bother with cooking in any expansion since I can buy so many food items?
just dont know if I passed over some detail here.

Giving your whole raid party a large buff seema like a good enouph reason to me

Nope. Particularly mat, and especially fishing mat, intensive food. Not like back during WoLK and Cataclysm when you could fish 20 fish or kill 20 basilisks and cook 20 +Stat entrees.

You can eat stuff raw, but cooking it usually helps with taste, texture, and health!

Yes, your food buff.

Given the median skill level of all players across WoW, the food buff really isn’t nearly as important as improving play.

So basically just buffs.
eh. I dont raid so I probably wont spend the energy and time with cooking on new characters anymore.
I went nuts with it on a few of them but it just seems like time and gold wasted

Im probably crazy, but I kinda wish theyd make it so you cant buy so much food everywhere so you HAVE to take cooking to get food thats relevant.
Same with potions. I find myself using potions when running dungeons just more to make it feel like I didnt waste my time taking Alchemy than actually needing to use the potion.

This thread reminded me that I haven’t had lunch yet. Time to go cook something.

I just had a Stouffers single serving Lasagna. OMG…for frozen food they are absolutely tasty. Better than most of the homemade Ive had

I guess you could go to the AH to buy food.

I’m probably crazy too but I don’t want to see something removed just because it’s only really necessary in raids or M+.

And you don’t have to level cooking to get buff food, you just have to open the AH and buy a stack. It’s pretty cheap.

The question I’m hearing is “Should I level previous expansion cooking”, to which I would say:

Don’t bother leveling previous expansion cooking unless you want the achievement. You’re never going to use them unless you are levelling an alt, using bear tartare for farming or for on use affects (polymorph etc).

Immersion. Cooking and Fishing are things that I always enjoy doing in RPGs.
