Ive been told this stat is most important for a mage. But is it an actual stat or the equip bonus on gear?
It’s the “Increases damage and healing done by spells and effects by x” on gear. It’s easier to say spell power and in later expansions it was just “spell power” on gear.

It increases your spell damage. But it’s not most important. It’s third most important in pve, and second in pvp.
It’s how you do more damage.
Usually the damage and healing stats on gear are about half of what healing alone is on gear. Make sure you read closely because increase to healing does nothing for you as a mage and is healer gear.
Spell power is the power to increase your spells beyond its limits by a factor.
Think of it like going saiyan then super saiyan 2 all the way to pushing past the ceiling and even further beyond.
It’s really powerful in that regard.
