Rated BattleGround

Random is BG, just BattleGround.

Rated now.

Some used to use RBG for random battleground, similar to how some used WG for Warsong Gultch pre-Wintergrasp, but it all changed when the new feature was introduced.

Also the standard colors for people who hate each other in just about every game with distinct playable factions.

Rbg is always rated

Unrated is just bgs. You don’t say the random part. You can differentiate between 10 mans and 40 mans with ebg for epic bgs

So in past tense it did mean Random battle ground?

I’m inclined to believe it’s both rated and random.

In the 17 or whatever years I’ve been playing this game I have literally never seen or heard anyone refer to a random bg as “RBG”. It has always been rated and randoms are just “bgs” in my experiences.

Rated battleground. Because random battlegrounds are just battlegrounds.

Though it is an unlikely circumstance you would have to make the distinction between the two if you only communicated in chat text.

In the very distant past battlegrounds werent random, you had to queue at battlemasters for specific ones

The pvp interface came out in wrath but i can’t remember if you could queue for random bgs or if you had to select them individually

Rated battlegrounds didn’t come out until cata

Regular bgs and epic bgs used to be in the same queue and then were later split into the two queues we have now in the interface

The term obviously been used it’s a just a question as to whether players use to describe it as RBGs.

Rbgs means rated

Bgs means unrated (can include epics)

Ebgs means epic bg (excludes non epics)

I have partial hearing loss so I primarily do. And I used to do a ton of pvp with friends, rbg wasn’t a thing until rated battlegrounds were introduced.

Still, rated hasn’t been around as long as randoms have. We just had bgs for the first few years and in the beginning you ran to npcs at the bg’s location portal and queued for the one you wanted to do and sat there til enough people in your level bracket showed up for a game. Then you could just queue in the lfg style menu wherever you stood and picked a specific one or random when that came out and it was just “hey wanna do some bgs?”

This entire conversation is just reminding me how you used to be able to tell how long people had been playing by whether they used DM for Deadmines or Dire Maul (VC or Van Cleef was the older reference to Deadmines).
