What is Monelite?

So what exactly is Monelite? We know Stormsilver is used for ships int he Kultiras navy since it doesnt rust / corrode, but What int he hell is monelite? I’d assume it is fossilized Dino remnants, but its a metal. is there any quests or lore on it?

There’s not really a whole lot of information on what Monelite really is or is used for (well…outside of profession recipes).

I honestly might be missing some hidden factoid in other quests, but all you really find out in the Mining quests - both Horde and Alliance - is that Monelite is a very soft and malleable metal, to the point that it’s likened to “taffy” and you don’t need a pick when harvesting it from a seam.

Taffy quote Quest: A Need For Coal (Alliance)

Complete:

No need for a pick Quest: Don't Pick a Fight (Alliance)

Complete:

^Note: The Horde quests basically say the same things, but the Alliance is a little more clearer. No point in quoting both.

The main reason we got Monelite ore I believe is because Blizzard feels the need to add new types of ores whenever a new expansion or big patch rolls around, and so rather than going back to silver, copper, iron etc we’d expect to find in Azeroth and form the backbone of the industries, Blizzard just came up with Monelite instead without really putting much thought or lore into it.

To be fair, I wouldn’t have minded if Kul Tiran mining had seen a return to the old reagents of Azeroth. New for newness sake isn’t always a good thing.

well best i can tell you, its used like most metals.

like say, you have a weaker metal more formed around to make a easy fit, while stronger metal like iron or steel, to be forged on the outter works for protections.

so mixed metals has uses, so probably use for making these easier for armor while also being able to be useful for other things like handles for weapons or good placements for engineering bits.
