What is Malfurion doing?

A honest question. Is there any mention of him in Shadowlands? It’s a bit weird to me that he just leaves Tyrande in the maw with the whole Night Warrior vengeance thing. I mean, shouldn’ he help or something?

Malfurion has had a chronic issue of not really doing a thing unless it involves the wilds being threatened as a whole, starting at LEAST from when he came back in Cataclysm and was wholly capable of just standing there while his wife was pummeled by Horde raid groups. Terror of Darkshore broke that trend, but only briefly.

There might be a place for Malfurion in future stories - Ardenweald seems like it would fit him - but as it stands, he’s nowhere and he’s not really mentioned anywhere as far as I can tell. Shandris seems to be the one filling in that role for Shadowlands.

Answer’s simple, Blizzard doesn’t want to use him for SL. The WoW cast is so huge that Blizzard will straight out just forget that something exists entirely : See the Vindicaar not being used at all during BfA. You’d think a freaking spaceship would be a decent military asset.

Outside of Ardenweld it feels like druids having any real power in the Shadowlands is more for gameplay mechanics than anything.

How much power would he have in a plane of death suffused with death energy where there’s no living ecosystems around him for him to manipulate?

Assuming something stupid happens which binds Tyrande permanently to Ardenwald, I don’t expect to hear from Malfurion at all.

Assuming there’s nothing for him to say goodbye to, I’d say he’s just at Teldrassil defending it from rampaging Scourge and being the leader to the night elves while Tyrande is off a’killin.

They could have written many reasons to leave Malfurion behind.

They decided to just not show any.

Wow has a huge cast, not all characters are active at all time. I am still waiting for some wc3 heros like Sumo to come to wow. It about time blizzard horde needs characters as they are currently lacking big time.

Someone has to lead the Night Elves. If both Tyrande and Malfurion went to the Shadowlands, it’d likely fall to Maeiv to do it. We can probably kiss that very necessary peace goodbye if that’s the case. Maeiv wouldn’t hesitate to start slaughtering the Horde at the tiniest provocation, real or perceived.

Something else to consider is that the Scourge are still rampaging across Azeroth. During the Kyrian campaign quests, you go to Redridge to witness the final moments of Ben Howell, a resident of Lakeshire who dies defending the place and his family from the Scourge.

Maiev while killing Horde soldiers: " This is almost as fun as searching for Illidan"

Gotta allow the horde to win sometimes.

“The Alliance kinda forgot about the Vindicaar during the War of Thorns” - Steve Danuser

Why did the Keepers not react at all to the sword in Silithus when caring for the planet is their job description? Why wasn’t the Vindicaar used in Darkshore? Where was Wrathion in Legion when the demons returning was all he was talking about during MoP? They all have the same answer as your question:

When Blizzard doesn’t want to use a character they may as well not exist, logic be damned.

Well I imagine he is spearheading reconstruction efforts on Hyjal to give the Kaldorei a new home. He IS the co-leader of the Kaldorei, so with Tyrande berserk atm it falls to him to do the leadership stuff. Plus, it takes lots of druidic magic (and/or wisps) to create Kaldorei buildings given they are often shaped from living trees.

Yeah. A spaceship is clearly impossible for the Horde to deal with, as seen by the Legion spaceships clearly destroying the Horde, and Tempest Keep not being easiliy hijacked by the blood elves alone.

Clearly the Horde has no recourse.

My presumption is that Tyrande appointed Malfurion to lead the Kaldorei during her hunt for Sylvanas. With the Cenarion Circle now in shambles… (Presuming that following Teldrassil’s destruction. Malfurion disbanded or left the Cenarion Circle to avenge Teldrassil.) He is now left to guide the people on his wife’s absence.

You do know that Kael’thas and his forces hijacking Tempest Keep was intentional on the Naaru’s end right? There is a reason why M’uru’s story is very similar to that of Jesus (I am being serious) to the point that I like to call him, purple Jesus.

A’dal and the other Naaru left a skeleton crew and M’uru in order to set Velens prophecy in motion. Which M’uru knew about. This prophecy was to rebirth the Elves faith in the light after it was lost during the fall of Quel’thalas during the Third War. Unfortunately this meant that M’uru had to be drained of his light and ultimately killed in order to cleanse the sunwell of the Legions influence (both Kel’thuzads resurrection and Kil’jaedens summoning) while turn it into a font of both arcane and holy magic via M’uru’s core (or heart as Velen puts it).

So using it as an example(s) for the argument “horde can easily take down space ships that are at geocentric orbit” when the example(s) in question are about a space vessel that is parked in the sky that “an air raid party can attack it” or “a ground force can attack it” is a very poor way to support an argument.

I mean I would love to see a swarm of Orc Wind Riders try and attack a space ship that is in space. Maybe they could use some of those magic catapults that can somehow set a giant tree way off in the distance on fire.

I think I understand what you mean. It’s fine if blizzard doesn’t really feel like using him but despite the leadership, i just feel like it’s strange that he’d just let Tyrande hunt Sylvannas alone, especially with the new powers and side effects. Since they’re an old couple I kinda expected something like “i’m coming with you”. Well, maybe 10.000 years is a long time together, best to take care of home i guess

he’s male and not even blonde young boy. So he’s naturally useless for writers

I never have understood what happened to Malfurion after Warcraft III. He’s so implausible at times. I mean goes off to save Tyrande when she’s in danger and then is content to nap when she’s in the world of death? Huh…?

I don’t think the side effects are really widely known to the Night Elves in general. Doesn’t Shandris only learn in Ardenweald from a former Night Warrior that it inevitably leads to death? I’m sure if Malfurion knew that he’d have tried to stop her from becoming the Night Warrior at all. As far as the Night Elves know, attempting the ritual has the high death risk, and she’s past that.

You do know that the Horde has a guy who can transport people across different timelines to a different planet all on his own who could trivially open up a way for a strike force or massive explosive to appear inside of the Vindicaar? Hell, he could open up a portal to the bottom of the ocean to the interior of the vindicaar. The choices are nearly endless.
