For me it’s my guild and the friends in it. I raid with them, I do arena and mythic + with them. They always make me laugh and are like a little second family.
But what about you?

Transmog and mount runs from old content honestly. And finally on the final step to completing Shadowmourne 8 years in the making lol.
I’ve been leveling alts. Doing class quests and mounts that I didn’t do in legion cause I quit legion early. Starting to get bored tho so I might quit till 8.2 or 8.3.
Sorry, but want to make a general comment. Your situation shouldnt be rare and it’s what truly keeps people subscribed. Not time walking or titanforging, or frankly, any recent system.
People stay when they have friends who they socialize with in the game doing …whatever. Thats what creates addiction in an MMO, when it becomes like a second social life.
i play it as a time killer.
I farm old mounts, transmogs, and run M+ with a small group of friends. If it weren’t for those few good friends I have, and my guild, I wouldn’t be playing.
There’s a lot I’m not happy with, but M+ and IEs are probably the best thing they’ve ever added to the game for small group content. They’re fun to run.
The fact that it’s on recurring and I forgot to make it manual payment.
Title says to keep it positive, then OP says this …
A bit counter productive if you ask me.
At any rate, I’m subbed cause the fee doesn’t really dent my income too badly. I login for a couple hours a day, then go find other things to do. Definitely not what it used to be for me.
Guild and because WoW is my “I am boring out of my mind I’ve nothing else to do with my life” game, so basically as long as I am on my computer my WoW is running in the background, even though I am probably watching a video or a live stream.
Tokens.
Roleplay, collections, the story of Warcraft.
I’m not here to gear chase anymore.
I’ll amend this. I’m still about 4-5 paragon caches from the full 18. When that happens, hopefully my sub will be at the end of its cycle and I can take take a break. Come back in July for 8.2.
I play when the fancy takes me and don’t play when it doesn’t. I am subscribed at the moment, but I don’t have a singular “I am subbed to this game”- game. I alternate between this, FFXIV, ESO, and even SWtOR. It just depends what I may be feeling any given month.
Still trying to meet a girl on WoW and it’s cheaper than eHarmony.
It’s free (WoW Token, 2 years paid off)
I enjoy the game. My motivation varies by day, I don’t always feel like logging on. But I’ve never stopped liking WoW and usually I can find ways to keep myself busy.
I stayed subscribed through the entire end year of WoD. I can survive anything after that.
People stay for lots of reasons not just the one you list. It’s an odd blanket statement to say. I am guildless and have been for a long time. My brother plays but we are generally on at different times. I play because I enjoy doing solo activities and random BG’s.
Same, guild and friends have been the main reason I play WoW for quite awhile now, if it weren’t for them I find it very difficult to imagine spending too much time on it.
For me though it’s very much the same with any game though, perhaps something that’s carried over from my childhood playing 2 player games with my brother, but I find it very difficult to get engrossed in a game for a long time without people to enjoy it with.
My choice of games generally ebb and flow depending on who is playing what at any particular time.
That being said, I’ve very much been enjoying doing M+ and Heroic raid content this patch.
I still enjoy the game in small doses.
Well played, Noozle. You just won the internet for the day, in my book anyway.
