Does he plan on returning to Azeroth or would he spend the rest on eternity sleeping and drinking in the afterlife realizing it is not even worth it?

They can’t go back to Azeroth. Renathal is pondering the possibility of making him the new Harvester of Envy or Dread.
He also talks with The Accuser and knows he has work to do with himself first. Repenting and all that.

Most likely the only thing we will get is him standing somewhere during a “stay awhile and listen” thing where he says “well, I see that I was wrong to do what I did when I was alive and I want to be redeemed now because venthyr stuff”.
You do basically get that with him and The Accuser when they talk about Kel’thuzad.
Well, the Countess is with Renethal and the team now, so I imagine she would keep on being the Harvester of Envy.

well, yeah he isn’t supposed to be able to return to Azeroth… but?
the whole you’re dead spill seems pretty complicated, especially when I manage to get dead, and resurrected at a graveyard, or by some PC, so on and on.
ok, so not talking about the PC, whom doesn’t die for long, but just trying to connect it to NPCs that have died…
so, we just don’t know… perhaps a new Lich King, wears this Helm of Wills, can still raise Deathknights… presto, Kael is back. Maybe the not so dark lady now still has a few Valkarie to raise him… presto, Kael is back. Maybe one of those Mawsworn Kyrians decide to take his soul back, where it’s reunited… I don’t recall hearing it’s a one way trip… they abducted 4 living beings… is Kael alive, or dead, seems I killed alot of things in the SL.
It seems the truth is, locating the target soul is the only difficult part to being returned to Azeroth…

kinda like knowing a cat only has 9 lives, the trick being how many has it lost… kinda hard to keep up with that in a world of retcon lore
The Val’kyr that served her. The other ones sure as heck aren’t gonna help her after what she tried to do. Also Odyn sure as heck isn’t gonna let that happen after all this.

Gotta say Odyn x Sylvanas is a ship I haven’t heard of before.
Well any of the shadowlands characters can go to the mortal realm whenever required as shown in the Maldraxxus afterlife cinematic with Draka infiltrating a Legion outpost.
Personally I hope we(Horde) at least get to deliver a letter to Lor’themar consenting to him taking the throne of Quel’thalas. Maybe an apology in there as well.
I do hope he has some future in the franchise though as he deserved a better story than he got in BC.
