Yeah, alright. I get that coming up with a clever guild name may not be the easiest thing to do. The ideal is to incorporate basic information about what the guild is actually about. Or at least have a cool epic name.
So you would think that the guild’s name is very important for guild recruitment.
But sometimes I get whispered an offer to join a guild. I look at the guild name and see how ludicrous it is and immediately am turned off, and refuse the offer.
Is it really that impossible to come up with a guild name that is at least marginally impressive?
To make things worse. Some guild masters come up with some of the most horrendously appalling names for their guild that are just plain out cringe worthy.
Don’t these guild masters who make these silly guild names realize how counter productive their guild name is?
The very first guild name I came up with for a guild my friend started was Eternal Twilight. Guild names can be very weird these days though, there are still some good ones out there.
Quite a few names I see out there that I think are neat.
Then, much like OP, I see some - or get invited to some - that are like, “Wow, what were you thinking?” Or - how could someone be proud/willing to wear that tag.
But then I think, I have no idea what the joke behind it is or the actual intent when it was made. I really don’t know and rather than care, I move on with all the important stuff I have on my agenda.
I can almost understand people trying to make the guild names sound edgy. I can try to see the intended humor in others. But some guild names lead me to believe that the name choice was just thrown together by a person who had no idea what they were doing.
I joined a guild in Wrath, that the GM changed the name of after joining to, “I Gemmed Her Red Socket.” It was reported within a week and changed to something I can’t even remember.
He would also threaten to beat the crap out of me since we were local to each other.
I was 14 at the time, he was an adult.
Some people are just stupid and never learn how to not be a piece of crap with bad opinions and ideas.
I don’t even get that far, I just deny guilds invite because they sent them and I’m too lazy to disable them on most of my alts.
And I’m pretty sure most people that just randomly sent out guild invites like that don’t actually care. It’s not as bad as it was in Cata, but as long as guild members are doing content in groups the guild still makes some free income.
