What is everyone's overall opinion on Nerub-ar Palace now that it is almost over?

Now that the new zone and raid are almost here, how did everyone like Nerub-ar Palace as a first raid?

Asthetic wise, I think they do a good job of getting the spider/nerubian vibe.

Difficulty/mechanic wise, I though some of the bosses were unique in a good way but some at the end were a nightmare for my casual guild and pug groups lol.

Purely from an LFR PoV: It’s okay.

None of the bosses were really memorable save the Nexus Princess and the one with the wave mechanic.

I hope there’s more wave mechanics S2, maybe with surfboards.

Didn’t like the trinkets. Really didn’t like the trinkets. All of them are either hyper situational or hyper gimmicky. No, I don’t want to build 40 stacks or have another Execute with my existing Execute, I’d just like a pretty straightforward ā€˜make my character better’.

My SPriest got a trinket that has a stacking mechanic and only improves Mind Blast, and gives a minor Haste buff at max stacks. It stinks because theme wise it really fits the character but I don’t…really use Mind Blast on her that much. She’s Archon, she’s all about that Mind Flay: Insanity ticking for millions in a single use.

Even if she was Voidweaver a bit more Shadow damage on Mind/Void Blast just doesn’t seem all that worth it. Sadly Mind Blast isn’t the SPriest nuke it once was.

Outside of the trinkets no major criticisms. Kinda wish it looked a bit more diverse or had a few different biomes to break out from the grey and violet motif.

Ovinax was a nightmare to pug…

Otherwise it was ok, but kinda whatever.

I thought it was okay. But, design-wise, it felt muted. The bland colors made it feel too uniform between the different wings of the raid.

Mechanic-wise, they were unique, but none of the bosses were really memorable. Also, I feel like the Nexus Princess was a bit… overstimulating with how much is going on. All the effects made it hard to really discern what is going on for me. It was a cool fight visually, but far too much going on at once. I was never able to down her on heroic because of this.

Out of 10, I’d maybe give it a 6. It was REALLY average with nothing really memorable.

I only ever did it on LFR. So, purely for the narrative and aesthetic, it was okay. I’d give it a solid: B.

It really bugged me. :sunglasses:

(Yes, I know. ā€œCOUNT THE LEGSā€)

(I’d give the raid a 6.5 out of 10)

The transmogs are ok.

I didn’t touch the raid aside from the story mode thing early on. Paid very little attention to it, just did it to check that off.

Most of the boss fights were forgettable.
Queen was easier (at AotC) than Fyraak (who was easiest of DF)
Broodmaster was an incredibly stupid fight (oh cool a wipe if you don’t do the eggs perfectly)

It seemed kind of undertuned. I remember Uldir as a expansion first raid. Ghuun was beyond what most lfr people could do. The queen here I never saw more than 1 stack of determination, but Ghuun you would see close to 5.
The slice and dice mechanic seemed to be overused on the bosses. Cut this cut that for at least 2 bosses.

I liked it better than VotI but not as much as Aberrus or Amirdrassil.

Comparing it to previous first raids, pretty meh. If Highmaul was an 8 then this one was a 3-4. Aesthetics were very bland.

I really enjoyed this raid. I have experienced only 2 mythic bosses and everything under that difficulty wise. There were some really cool mechanics! And every boss felt unique enough to be interesting when we came upon it. I liked feeding the first boss those bugs, using webs to stop a charge and as a tank for a lot of the time I enjoyed Ansurek being a fun fight to learn to use defensives just right or being squished!

Queens fight was tough as nails to pug before the nerfs, but I hope they continue to make fights like this where it requires everybody to get involved and perform the mechanics right. Even now attempting it as a dps it feels like a new fight to me.

A good thing I liked about the raid is how clearly everything showed up during the fights. It wasn’t like amirdrassil where I had some difficulty seeing the effects to do mechanics.

Personally I’d give the raid a 8/10. I don’t particularly like fights like ovi and those eggs. But another point taken off because of the actual bugs in that raid. We had sikran charge at people that somehow get ported down to bloodbounds platform. I’ve been stuck in combat for 15 minutes on court because one boss died but the other one didn’t. Stuff like that even at the end of this season. Lol

Couple neat fights, but overall pretty meh. Lots of trash. Didn’t care for the aesthetic.

I disliked it a lot. The wild difficulty spikes in certain bosses, requiring entire WeakAura addons to track mechanics, are just awful design.

Some bosses were decent, though. Princess had some interesting mechanics, but the orbs that surround players and shoot out on Heroic and above were an awful part of the fight.

Most of the mechanics for princess were designed well from a visual standpoint. You know exactly what you need to do without having to have an addon or some 41st raid leader telling you what you need to do.

(not including mythic, mythic raids are just addons vs devs)

I thought it was alright. But this is also the first raid I’ve done higher than LFR since BfA. No mythic for me, but even heroic was pretty fun!

One thing that stands out to me though as primarily a pugger is that everyone always worried about who’d be doing webs on Court, but then nobody talks about the dispel phase and Tekazj ends up blowing up the majority of the time. :dracthyr_crylaugh:

I LOVED it. I have done LFR, normal, and heroic and am a sad 1/8 mythic (almost 2/8 but it’s end of season and I’m on a weekend team that is fighting attendance boss).

Ulgraxx was ok, though the intermission on mythic makes me angry because every charge likes to be right on top of the group. There’s rarely a lucky one.
B Horror was really fun to me when first learning it.
Sikran is fun because I like just pure single target pew pew pew. The mechanics aren’t hard to understand and once you know them it’s not stressful.
Rasha’nan is neat. The waves caused me so much stress and panic at first until I realized the very obvious way to tell which way they’re going to go, then it was a facepalm moment.
Broodtwister is fun. (Not on mythic, no thanks) I like how you can start in any section and honestly I just find the egg mechanic to be nifty. Yes it can be horrendously frustrating in pugs, but the only pugging I do is LFR so that doesn’t really matter.
Ky’veza is my favorite. I absolutely love that fight. There’s SO much going on, but it’s just a dance that if everyone does it correctly it’s just fun.
Court is crazy. There are so many mechanics. So so many. The trip mechanic is funny as a concept but being responsible for the webs is terrifying as a squishy. I enjoy it and especially enjoy spymasters :stuck_out_tongue:
Queen is something else. LFR and normal are simple enough but heroic gets spicy fast. Constant movement and responsibility for popping toxins mean my dps is always poop on queen but my favorite part of the fight is the transition into p3 when you can absolutely dump dps into her while she prepares to jump down. Even though I think that fight is really hard (one tiny mistake by one player can mean a wipe) I really like it.

Overall I love the raid. I wish I could have seen more of mythic, but my work schedule is horrendous for raiding. I will admit that part of the reason I love the raid so much is that I have an amazing community that pugs normal every week (lots of consistent players though) and through that I found a guild that happened to have a second raid on a day and time I could make consistently so I got to do heroic. The people you play with make a big difference. I played exclusively classic from launch til my server absolutely died in wrath and then didn’t really play until remix. I came back to retail just a few weeks before the expansion. I hadn’t played retail seriously since Cata, just leveled and maybe dabbled in some LFR ever since but entirely skipped SL due to classic and didn’t do anything in DF until the very end. So it’s been an amazing season for me and I’m very happy.

Normal and Heroic were really pretty perfect for my skill level. Getting AOTC felt like a goal I’d achieve, and was able to do so, and it took a ā€œheroicā€ effort to make it happen! Good balance of difficulty, felt like teamwork and mechanics execution really mattered.

nice place, needed more nurnies around to flesh out the Palace since it in no way evoked a ā€œpalace,ā€ like feeling

I’m happy some people liked it. Sorry to those who didn’t. umm… i didn’t do it except in story mode myself but oh well I know I’m missing out because I’m a coward oh well.
