What is botting?

I actually know what it is… But if I’m picking herbs for hours on end am I not doing the same as a bot?

1 is a program
1 is a person

I know…

But how does blizzard differentiate the two? Should grind in fear of being looked at as a bot?

Baby don’t hurt me, don’t hurt me no more.

It’s when someone tells you they run Bots in video games and give them an atomic wedgie.

Beep Boop Schoop Da Woop!

A human won’t run the same route exactly as an AI would.

Try doing the same route twice or three times, you’ll see. AIs’ movement curves are more smooth while humans zig zag more as we move in lines with our WASD keys.

If i see someone acting like a bot, i’ll usually whisper them and when they don’t reply, i’ll know that they’re a bot at which point i’ll try to take advantage of the AI or if in WM, kill them.

Not if your doing it your grinding… Bot a is robot , a program that runs without a person

This is the thinking that can get innocent players banned. Not everyone who ignores you is a bot.

Not everyone who farms watches Netflix on a 2nd screen.

Whenever i farm, i’m always looking for distractions from the routine of farming. A whisper is always welcome, even if it’s “Hey, yeah not a bot. Gl!”

Hey, that’s super cool for you, but not everyone who ignores you is a bot. If I’m out farming and someone whispers me, I’m not obligated to reply to them, just to assure them I’m not needing a report on my head. Maybe I just wanna mine and listen to music, not prove my humanity every 5 minutes to someone.

Blizzard use a memory probe to look for code that can do inputs for WoW. They call this technology Warden.

Black Desert GMs do it a little different. They teleport suspected bots around to try and get them to respond. If a BDO GM teleports you to the middle of the horse ranch and you keep trying to fish in the grass, you gettin banned.

Not Sunday. Now to answer the question Blizz doesn’t care so long as they get their money.

3 accounts ran by the same person for gold farming is 3 times the cash. In the early days they cared about power leveling and botting. Not any more. Well, provided you follow the approved botting process. I forget where it was posted. Saw it a few years back.

Wait what? There’s need to fully partialize your attention to something else and just mindlessly do it? That sounds stressful and like you’re roboticising yourself, then again you did say it’s not common or not everyone does it at least. That’s what people do when they’re trying to get through a work day. Doesn’t sound like playing for fun but to each their own…

I gather and farm materials because I enjoy it and like doing it. At most I’ll be listening to a Captain Grim video or something playing in the background, but that’s just to simulate something comforting.

Blizzard systems have the ability to look for programs and patterns to indicate a bot activity.

This makes more sense. Bots do the exact same thing 100% the same?

They don’t tell people because that’d result in people successfully evading bans.

Nope.

We are all bots. It’s just that our computer is a neural net, not a procedural based processor.

Ive dropped down and farmed crap Ive seen bots farming, lol. Im sure players might have assumed I was botting too.
Bliz seems to be able to mostly tell the difference, thankfully.

Action is taken from reports.

If you aren’t reported you have nothing to worry about. Just farm normally and you’ll be fine.
