A troll totally insulted me (not really) that Unian here is an alt and not a main.
She’s totally my main on Sentinels in Thallia’s guild… I just haven’t found the strength to do stuff in ZM all over again.
Do I need to have raid or m+ ratings on that armory profile?
is my ‘main’ as in the toon I’ve been playing the longest and have sort of geared in ZM?
is the toon with the highest ilvl cause I have been playing along with a friend more on this realm.
All of those are now banked though cause I’m bored of ZM and an leveling alts to complete my utility guild achievements. Working on every flavour max lvl Tauren now!
So uhh… what was mr troll rambling about that Unian isn’t a main? how can one ‘see’ that?
An alt is a toon that is not your main. Some people actually do live the one main toon lifestyle, where they barely even look at other classes. It’s very weird to me.
It is an outright false dichotomy for many players. I’ve never had what anyone could call a “main” as I’ve always had more of a “stable” and one of the things I do close to the end of each expansion is level even more new characters.
This one might actually be further along than any other in this patch, but it’s also at most a month old. It’s the character I currently like most though, so I see no reason to post on anything else.
“Alt” and “main” have always been meaningless when it comes to how I experience the game. So there’s that.
Yea, same here. I am one of those ‘crazies’ (quoting the naysayers) that have max toons and constantly have to delete to make new ones. Unian is simply my forum main as being active on one character on here has benefits. Maybe more so than in the game itself?
imo a “main” is the character you do all the mog runs on and farm old legendaries and old reputation sets and character exclusive titles on. the character that when you’re not doing anything you like to be logged in on and afk on your favourite mount with your favourite mog
this paladin is my main, as ive done balance of power, farmed legendaries, i get exalted reps on her while my alts benefit from the account wide things (but my other characters have been higher rated/have had better gear than this pally)
so i guess i’d consider a main the character you do your dailies and unlock account wide things on, and every other character that benefits from those unlocks is an alt
Call me crazy but I do that on all my characters. Especially mog runs why not do them on as many characters as possible, that’s how I got a druid set I wanted. Three druids. This character is an Archmage, just like my other two mages. Characters are pretty much a revolving door for me and it’s been like that for 15 or so years. Rarely if ever do I play any of the same ones from one expansion to the next. But I may pick one back up after it’s sat out an expansion.
I think I have 49 characters and all but fewer than 10 of them (name reserves) are in some state of having been played. Again, call me crazy, it wouldn’t be the first time.
I just remembered meeting a dude IRL way back in wrath era (friend of a friend) and he just could not believe that I treated the game that way. He did the whole “main” thing and was more worried about perfecting that one character to the point he couldn’t even play another if he was bored.
Come to think of it I’m pretty sure we both thought the other was crazy though.
oh yeah i mean i have 6 level 60 paladins lol, i run them all through raids to get sets, but the intent is always to use that perfect mog on my main paladin. the other paladins are just alts to funnel mogs to the main one is what i mean
i buy the non bis stat conquest items on my alt paladins to unlock the 2100 appearances on them while this paladin buys the less good looking pieces for the stats*
You need one of each flavour! Kultiran is interesting, their racial punch is hilarious! slaps enemies right back to the tank if you accidentally pull them.
Others have summoned it up pretty well, but yeah people will decry something being an alt for various reasons.
Miyon here is the closest thing to being my ‘main’ as she is the first to go through any new content or start a new expansion. She is the first I play when I get on, and the one I run through old content for transmogs most often.
That said, she’d be called an alt, because I don’t do group content so has no current raids/mythic+ or PVP, and even on the pure non-group content side could be further along.
That being because I am also an alt addict (at least one of every class at max on both factions, and not uncommonly deleting old chars to make new ones at the 50 char cap as I enjoy questing more then end-game group content)
Actually the only duplication I’m not down for would be a same race/class. Now that we can change genders, I don’t even need to do that. Says the guy who leveled a female dwarf paladin after a male dwarf paladin in WoD.
WoD was kind of crappy, but not for leveling. No matter how bad an expansion can get at cap leveling is always there for me.
