Why do people expect alts to be “easy” to maintain? Alts should be nowhere close to the quality of mains, unless they’re just normal raid tier players. In which case, it’s easy to catch up. You don’t need the best essences or the highest neck IL unless you’re doing Mythic 15s or Mythic raiding. Would it be nice ? Yes. But the people with that gear put in tons of time. Alts should be a side thing.
Making it easy would devalue the time / effort of single toon players. With less to do. They might feel obligated to lvl an alt- less fun in their opinion. Aka, something better for your opinion would be worse for theirs.

Alt friendly is when there are no barriers to raid logging.

There’s LFR if you want to bring your entire roster. Even normal is easy with sub IL
They basically want to play an alt by do nothing but the raid and it will be geared enough so they don’t like other things that increase a characters power such as AP grinds, essences, cape grind ect. Have it be as good as someone who did all that stuff.
Which is totally unreasonable. If you want your alt to be good as your main you need to do stuff to make it as good.

I’d like them to at least make rank 1 essences account bound 
I subjected myself to that awful Mythic+ system once already, I don’t want to do it more.

None of those essences take more than a day, or an hour a week for 3(?) weeks to obtain. That’s baby levels of effort
The Mythic+ Essences require you to play Mythic+ and play them at higher levels if you want to get them in a timely manner.
I hate Mythic+
I did it once to get the essence I wanted. I’d much rather never have to step foot into a mythic+ again.
I don’t think asking for just rank 1 to be unlocked for anythign you’ve unlocked on your account is that much of an ask.

why? Why can’t we PvE or PvP in separate characters at similar effectiveness levels without it taking over our lives?
I know it’s a different type of game, but imagine if in OW you could only play three characters (similar to three specs in WOW); and had to do an entire set of introductory content for 30h before you could play three more.
Worse yet; imagine if your MMR in any MOBA reset when you swapped characters. That’s essentially what happens when you try to PvP in an alt in WoW.
Just because WoW is an MMO doesn’t mean we should not be able to have alts or that it should be so freaking difficult to do so.
It’s the same PLAYER behind both characters. She ’ he already grinded the reps, already knows how to do X or Y encounter, already leveled up once, etc.

It’s a game. So why are you trying to devalue somebody else’s effort/enjoyment? Less hard = less rewarding to a lot of people.

Effort to get gear e.g. Mythic+/raiding is good alt design.
Barriers/time gating e.g. 3 weeks to max out your Lucid Dreams, 3 resets to max out Vision of Perfection is terrible alt design.
Do it once on your main, then pay a hefty sum or something to pass down.

Mythic+ has essentially been part of the game since WoD. Also give a mouse a cookie. Give them rank 1 and they’ll ask for rank 2
And your cloak? And your rank 3 essences? Gear sockets? RNG rewards? Are you joking?
It is nearly impossible to maintain a viable alt in the current environment.
Go take your 1 day LFR/Normal alt into an arena. Watch him get steam-rolled by anyone who only plays 1 toon.

I don’t care how long it’s been in the game. I don’t enjoy it, if I wanted to run Diablo Greater rifts with a buncha angry people, I’d go play diablo 3 in a public game.
I’ve zero interest in doing it more than the absolute bare minimum in WoW, and I’ve already done that once.
Mythic+ sucks, and blizzard decided to lock essences behind them.

So maybe don’t get that essence then? Also “angry people”? I’ve done 1,000+ M+ and can only count on a single hand the number of bad runs I’ve experienced.
Good for you, all of my Mythic+ experiences have been negative.
Also, it’s basically one of the best essences in the game. So no I put up with the stupidity once, I don’t wish to do it again.
Essences really should be account bound. But I’d settle with just rank 1s

You’re going into them with a bad mentaL state. Maybe the 1 with the attitude is you. It’s funny. I’m in a Mythic guild and a normal/heroic progression guild. Never any drama in the Mythic 1 but there’s always people getting kicked or screaming in the n-h one.

Why does it matter if it’s easy for people to swap characters if they want too? How does that really hurt anything?

Because the game is not designed to be played without alts. Each class is supposed to be its own experience and you’re meant to experiment and play around. Alts are a fundamental part of the game’s experience, so why would people not expect them to be accessible? It’s like asking why people expect to be able to enjoy dishes other than their favorites at a restaurant. You’re fundamentally missing the point of the menu, or in this case the character select screen.

I go into them with the mental state of getting it done in a timely fashion and on time if possible.
My mental state is fine, I really don’t care about your anecdotal feelings on the matter, I don’t enjoy Mythic+ I think timed dungeons are stupid in concept, and it promotes toxic behavior and environments.
