A friend and I are thinking about taking our first serious stab at arena this season (as double DPS). We played a number of games as Arms/Sub but it just didn’t work out as we didn’t sync up well at all and he was wanting to kind of play a drawn out game that I wasn’t comfortable with and I wasn’t sure my spec would be able to handle sans a healer (might be a L2Play issue on my end).
He rerolled to Ret (his original main) and I am going to spend this arena season trying to work on communication, peeling and defensive play and general arena competency. My initial goal is to make Rival this season and try to progress into being an actually good arena player this expansion.
How far can competent people take double DPS that isn’t Rogue/Mage?
This is the best patch for double dps in awhile. War rogue is pretty mediocre though, not a ton of synergy. Almost anything is capable of 1800 if you understand your comp well enough
I’ve tried doing double DPS and got pretty close to 1600 but it really isn’t a fun grind and makes me wanna kill myself. I’ve done Hunter with Druid/Rogue/DK but the comps we’re weak against are way too plentiful once you’re hitting 1450~. Seems like unless there’s a hybrid in your team a double DPS team isn’t going to work out too well and even then it’s an uphill battle. I think Arms/Ret can definitely hit 1600 though
It is in the cards for us although I know he would rather not heal right now. One of the ideas for us is to get more polished and then add in a new healer for 3s. This is more of a learning/commitment experience for both of us as we have both PvPed quite a lot but have never actually been willing to work hard enough at it to succeed. I don’t know if I have ever done more than 100 arenas in a season, especially not with the same people.
I gotcha, well i wish you luck but i will warn you playing double dps 2s especially as arms is not gonna be the best way to learn arena in my opinion. Games will end extremely fast you’re going to be blowing every button you have almost immediately
This is definitely something I am keeping an eye on. It has been really hard to find people to run games with, so this is a “make the best of the situation” play I am making. I should actually say it is hard to find people that are willing to say, “I can get a lot better and won’t be blaming my teammates every game until I am lifetime 1500.”
This was really bad as Arms/Sub. I felt like I was getting dumber every game. “Okay, trinket first stun, pop DBtS, Spear” etc etc. I felt like I had to intentionally play “dumb” just to make the games last 30 seconds by doing things I would never do in a 3s game. If this goes poorly I am hoping he will make the jump to Holy.
