is it just like you can buy every upgrade of pvp gears with honor points? I never played WOD expansion, so anyone can explain me.
Your pvp geared scaled up in pvp instances. I think it may have scaled up to over heroic raid equivalent.
Even the starter gear did this.
Let’s say you get 220 gear from PvP now. In PvP it would scale up to like 232 (random numbers) in instanced PvP. So PvP gear would be superior to PvE, but wouldn’t be better in PvE, it would stay at that ilvl. BiS PvP gear would come from PvP because it would scale up.
There was honor gear that was earned fast and was boosted 30ilvl in PVP so that it was not ideal for PVE (which is great, because then it can be free from the slow PVE gearing progression)
Conquest gear was also boosted 30ilvl in PVP, but it was 10-15 ilvl higher than honor gear. Conquest gear was not gated by rating, but rating gave you a higher conquest cap each week, so you could earn gear faster.
Conquest was BiS for PVP too. Mythic raid gear was even nerfed slightly in PVP to keep it that way.
Here is the blue post introducing it:

the salient points of wod gearing are no upgrading and no relationship between ilvl and rating; you buy conquest gear at its base ilvl and you are full geared
Ashran also gave you a full set in one day. Really curious how this is gonna work with the upgrading system they have in place now. Not a big fan of it, it’s a big time sink if you’re behind at all.
I hope they just remove the upgrading system and go back to Honor sets and then a Conquest set.
that sounds like a pretty decent idea, so the casual pvp players can enjoy pvp pretty much by that.
I feel like they are discussing this because they are overhauling the pvp system next major patch (not the next mini-patch, which is 9.0.5) it is clear blizzard is not happy with how PvE players have shifted to pvp because they feel it is the best avenue of gearing.
EDIT: I also feel like they are doing this because of the boosting issue, or supposed issue people are complaining about on these forums.
obviously, blizzard cannot change this system without either…
- making pve gear overpowered and just better than pvp gear
- add pvp stats
- do wod scaling, which I prefer the most, and is the least amount of effort for them to do while also keeping pvp gear the exact same as it is, outside of having ilvl disparities bc of rating
Actually pretty nutty to possibly ser a PvP gear revamp 2 patches into an expansion, especially after just revamping it in the beta. This is something I would expect them to say near the end of SL and look forward to next expansion.
tbf the only reason I think this is because:
- blizzard is seeing people complain about a roster of issues as I mentioned
- imo it seems like such a weird thing to discuss when we are potentially well over a year and a half from even seeing next expansion teaser
- I am not sure if I can even call it a revamp tbh, all they would have to do is lower base ilvl on pvp gear, and make it so upgrades instead add to your ilvl boost in pvp combat - I am no coder but I dont think that would take too long to implement
It was said in an interview about patch 9.1 so here’s hoping!

What is preventing the casual player from enjoying pvp right now?
Also define casual pvp player?

What is preventing the casual player from enjoying pvp right now?
I was talking about everyone, not just casual players.
Having less of an ilvl gap in PVP is better for everyone. Being able to gear up an alt with honor gear faster in PVP is better for everyone. Having PVP gear be best for PVP is better for everyone. Have Bg conquest not be gated by rating is better for everyone.
I guess the WoD system would actually be worse for people who make money via carries, and those who derive pleasure from destroying undergeared players in unrated BGs.
The WoD system is better for people that mostly PvP and have a bunch of alts. It will decrease the amount of boosts going on and make arena more about skill rather than gear.
It’s a very good change. Idk if they’ll implement it but the least we can do is keep up the discussion so that they know we want changes.
I also think it’s a bit silly that the fastest way to gear right now in PvE is to PvP. Even with the mythic+ valor change, there isn’t a catch up system really in PvE and valor caps out. If they were to give valor a catch up mechanic than I guess the two systems would be pretty similar.
If PvP goes back to the WoD gearing system, I wonder how they would handle the weekly vault. I don’t think PvP players would shed a tear if PvP just didn’t have a weekly vault and they just increased the weekly conquest cap
Also they need to add different rewards to purchase with honor or conquest since there isn’t anything to really spend it on once you already have gear
it’s better if they can build wod pvp system like this. the pve players are playing with 220 ilvl from M+ and they can’t push rating , stucking at low 1200 1300 cr. That’s a huge problem for undergeared alts.

add pvp stats
this is literally 0 work since its already been done and perfected in prior xpac’s. same with wod scaling gear i just think versatility is a useless stat and shouldnt have an impact in a pvp scenerio.
Woggers in the hole
I also do not like versatility much (same reason - its boring) however I prefer it to the resil/pvp power budget like in mop, because if anyone remembers correctly, not only did mop pvp gear have pvp power/resil as a stat budget (which made heroic raiders have 40% more mainstat and like almost double the stam) but they ALSO had to reduce pve ilvl in pvp environments down by a whole tier so it wasnt better than the pvp sets, and we both know blizzard wont do that.
new catch to the system is it costs 15k honor and conquest per piece
probably
watching Blizzard drop the ball on gear systems for three expansions straight is so extremely frustrating
its literally the easiest thing to design in a game
