I understand what a regular guild is and what a raiding guild is.
My question is what is a Social Guild? Is it like a chat-room so people just socialize, and talk to each other?
I really have no idea what a social guild is? Could someone explain?

Nah you got it right, basically just a chat room (with maybe the odd grouping for content)
I’ve always defined a social guild as a place that has a few pillars in their community, but ultimately somewhere where players come and go. Hang out for a time while leveling or gearing, but then move on guilt free. Sort of like a part time job in college.
They’re supposed to function as a way to meet people and build a friend group. I’ve met a lot of my core gameplay buddies filtering through those social guilds before moving on together to something more focused.
Its a guild that Has a Guild Bank and a Tabard, and Plans to do Group Activities in the Future. Please Join. ®
I’m sure it’s exactly like most guilds but with more emphasis on being social.
I’ve been in a few guilds that were silent outside of raid nights and PvP events. Players that like to chat and be friendly don’t fit in well with guilds like that, so better to mark yourself as social to attract people that love to talk.
Every social guild I’ve been in has had an emphasis on hosting social events like movie nights on Discord, weekly coffee chat mornings, in game events like hide & seek, and on Moon Guard… even some uh auction nights… but very little emphasis on scheduling raid nights.
A social guild is a guild with a crap ton of rules where you can talk but can only say a few things because someone in the social guild may get offended.
Also its a guild run by a few social people who only run instances with the same social people and no one else. Only kool kids need apply.
Just sayin
Basically it’s an organic “Grats!” generator.
I don’t. WTF makes a guild “regular”?
Yeah, they raid.
It is
That’s what people generally use guilds for. “Social” means, “We don’t really raid or PvP or anything. We’re just friends who talk while we play WoW.”
from my understanding which is going to be different from anyone else’s…
A social Guild is just a Guild that likes to talk to each other while playing solo or seldomly together. They don’t typically run group content on a regular basis outside of leveling.
On top of being places to socialize they generally do ALL content from PVP, to a bit of RP, to raiding. Basically a jack of all trades but ace of none guild.
It’s less organized. A place where people hang out while playing.
The irony is I can’t tell you how many guilds a I joined on one realm (or faction) or another where they stated they were a social guild…and most times I logged on not a peep, no one helped one. You’d ask a simple question --getting an answer was 50/50.
I never raged quit any of these btw, I never bad mouthed anyone I just said “ok well enjoy the game”…and left.
A few times the GM would send a DM to me saying “Hey I’m just curious why did you leave”…I said something to the effect of you guys do nothing. No one communicates. The purpose of a guild is to help foster better enjoyment of the game with others. If a guild doesn’t serve that purpose why join it?
That’s not word for word btw, but that was the gist of what I said. I still have the philosophy about guilds to this day. I ask myself “why am I here and why does this guild exist” if I can’t answer either I probably shouldn’t be in it.
