A meme build is a build that is not optimal, or very good. Classic examples include ret pally, enhance shaman, and boomkin druid. Melee hunter could also fall into this.
Cookie Cutter builds would be builds that are all the same from every person. You copy the build like a cookie cutter copies a shape designed by an artist. The warrior 31/20/0 MS PvP build for instance falls into this. Another example would be the rogue cold blood prep build 21/3/23
I call my current leveling spec (priest) a “meme build” because I haven’t chosen it to optimize healing OR damage. I’ve chosen it for leveling as a priest who can heal a dungeon when asked to and do DPS when asked to…as well as grinding on mobs solo if I need to.
It works for me and I’m enjoying it, but it’s a meme spec because it is not an optimal choice for either shadow damage OR for a healing priest. It’s a mashup of various things I find useful during the leveling process, but it’s not a serious or optimized spec for anything at endgame.
A meme build is a substandard build that tryhards made acceptable, so now everyone wants to be a snowflake and play the special build. Except that none of these people are tryhards so they just end up playing a substandard build and generally sucking.
Yes, it is basically a build that the person calling it a “meme” build does not approve of for some reason. Usually this disapproval is formed from some bias they have picked up from the Retail version of the game or some really bad opinions they have absorbed from the “Pro” WoW players.
Pay them no mind. Play what you want and what is fun for you.
Ferals who don’t want to be carried by their guild, and who don’t want to be meme specs.
Oomkins don’t have a luxury to farm anything which could make them not to suck. Thus, they are a proper meme spec.
Also note that those raids which cleared MC week 1 in greens didn’t take any oomkins or ret pallies… or ferals without MCPs.
One of the reasons why classic is so “easy” compared to vanilla is a much more pervasive elitism and way less tolerance for meme specs. Most people want fast and easy runs and will want their groups to be stacked with optimal classes.
Every1 saying Boomkin is a meme spec but they are not right. They can be super useful in raids + can do some serious dps. But the thing is you need to work twice as hard to get there
Somewhat true, but at a cost of horrible DPS. A pure DPS or a healer would be more useful. It has been shown that the bonus crit brings less DPS gain than the loss of DPS by having an oomkin go oom 10 seconds into the fight.
Citation needed. Note that if you mention consumables, compare an oomkin with consumables against a mage with consumables.
OOMkin’s are only necessary for AQ40+ when you’re trying to stack those fat rolling ignite crits for fire mages.
Before AQ40 OOMkin just dont have the facilities to keep up with the rest of the DPS although they do ------alright------ but they definitely arent something you wanna bring early on. And when you DO bring them. One oomkin MAYYYYYYYYYYYYBE two. Two is stretching things QUITE a bit.
