What is a Dark Knight?

To avoid confusion with modern Dks, Gorefiend and his old gen Deathknights from WC2 could just be “Dark Knights”? An interesting class or a spec for warlock? It is more of “melee lich” than a knight?

A knight is usually in the forces of good. The dark knight is just evil, but their abilities are roughly the same. That’s the way I see it anyway.

It’s just death knights before blizzard started calling them death knights.

What’s a Void Knight?

The pious Ishgardian clergy guide the flock, and the devout knights protect the weak. Yet even the holiest of men succumb to the darkest of temptations. None dare to administer justice to these sacrosanct elite residing outside the reach of the law. Who, then, defends the feeble from the transgressions of those meant to guide and protect them? A valiant few take up arms to defend the downtrodden, and not even the holy priests and knights can escape their judgment. Pariahs in their own land, they are known by many as “dark knights.” These sentinels bear no shields declaring their allegiance. Instead, their greatswords act as beacons to guide the meek through darkness.

Dark Knights can be quite varied, depends on the source material. My personal favorite incarnation of DRK is Final Fantasy’s; a warrior that utilizes the power of darkness in a way that skyrockets their damage capabilities, but at the cost of their health; often DRKs get very low on HP but become damage output machines once they’re there. Since they’re at low HP so often, they also get neat tricks to keep themselves upright even at such low HP, like SoP’s DRK build granting Protect and Shell at low HP, or using HP to increase strike potency and one-combo-stagger bosses.

EDIT: Dark Knights needn’t be evil. Cecil Harvey is a fine example of an extremely heroic Dark Knight.

EDIT 2: Given FF’s proclivity to throw the player party at deities, the Darkness element that Dark Knights often use can actually be surprisingly valuable here, as it often has a powerfully disruptive effect on Holy creatures.

They were souls forcibly shoved into other dead bodies. Nathanos is basically one of those abominations. He took over the body of his cousin. I’d call that a Death Knight.

In Rift, they were basically Death Knights. I’d love to see them be the name of Velf Paladins, wielding Void and not Light.

First and 2nd? gen death knights/dark knights where orc heroes/warlocks/necrolytes’s souls put in the body of human knights/paladins.

Later gens were reanimated through the lich king and valkyr.

The OG WC2 Death Knight is the superior Death Knight. Arthas and his DKs are cheap knockoffs who even stole several of the OG DKs spells.

The black knight is a literary stock character who masks his identity and that of his liege by not displaying heraldry. Black knights are usually portrayed as villainous figures who use this anonymity for misdeeds. They are often contrasted with the knight-errant. The character appeared in Arthurian literature and has been adapted and adopted by various authors, in cinema and popular culture. The character is sometimes associated with death or darkness.

  • In the World of Warcraft The Black Knight is a dungeon boss “Trial of the Champion”. The game also features a sword of the same name.

That is how I see a Void Knight as. They would be a Paladin that has lost their way and can no longer tap into the Light. Either they give into the darkness to gain their power back, or slowly fall into the void. It’s be like a Jedi vs. a Sith for WoW.

I just wish they’d steal the red eyes, at least.

A dark knight is Batman or like the Final Fantasy version of a death knight

I do hope DKs get some love in the customization department. Warlocks and Druids have been getting a lot of love lately and that’s great. I’m certainly eager for more Warlock demons, too. But I’d like Blizz to share the love with other classes as well.

[sadly petting my drk on 14]
