What is a Community (vs. Guild)

We have an option in the Guild menu (“G”) to browse, join, and/or create a Community. What is a Community, in this sense? Is there some official documentation on the differences between a WoW Community vs. a WoW Guild somewhere (and if so, would someone please give me the URL for this information)?

Thank you,
Franklin

Here you go

Blizzard Support - World of Warcraft Communities (battle.net)

All though in time I would not be surprised if the only difference between Guilds and COmunities would being that can only be in 1 per toon for guilds

Good question. The main difference is guilds have guild achievements and a guild bank, as well as some perks for being in one like instant mail between characters in the same guild. The community is about the same socially, can be multifactional and also works across all servers in the region, not just connected ones.

So far, it would appear that a Community is strictly a social construct, with no in-game mechanical benefits (nothing like a guild’s bank, the ability to pay for a member’s repair costs, or a mass resurrection, for instance).

Is this correct?

Thanks.

At the time communities were how you crossfactioned. Now… Now it’s guild part two. So you can talk to other people without leaving your guild. In all honesty it should probably be scrapped.

a community is … a side-guild.

did you look at the link i posted?

Sometimes people come to the forums to discuss these things. That’s why it’s called “Discussion”

Just telling someone to read a link, while providing the information - isn’t quite the reason a good number of us are here.

They should just merge guilds and community’s the more stuff that cross realm the better so we can just merge every server into a mega server eventually

There doesn’t need to be a “discussion” about what a guild / community is as Blizzard has provided documentation. Someone’s interpretation of what a guild / community is ultimately has no impact on the actual implementation in game; thus the need for discussion here is minimal and a link to documentation is fine.

You can’t be serious. I hope.

Communities are probably the best thing blizz put in the game in recent(ish) years. They allow players to create true community (yep) around a specific common interest.

A guild is a dot which part of a circle of a community ,in short.

The link DOES provide a “was this helpful?” option, and a lot of times, I hit “no” 'cause they’re not really helpful. Hence, the need to dig deeper and ask the community their thoughts and understanding of a system, then I can come up with my own conclusion.

And, maybe Blizz can take inspiration from our conversations and reword it better.

Are people this confused? And can’t tell the difference between a guild and a community? Can a city run without it’s different parts doing their work? if your confused as to say a guild is a community you are sadly wrong even if they seem the same ,they are not.

I believe he’s talking about the system named communities, not the actual community.

A community is a system of vast people there is no really organization within it just a common goal,a guild is part of this system but more organized like ants in a colony.

There’s nothing wrong with the OP’s question. I figured maybe (s)he had come back to the game after some time away and only just learned about communities. Also, I’d probably be confused too if I weren’t in any communities myself.

Nothing wrong with asking questions it is a good sign. You may not seem to be but you are now

Can friends from different factions and various realms join a guild together? I know we can all join a community, but there is no purpose other than social aspect in-game. Is the correct? If so we can just use discord for that.
