What do you mean by this AP? It’s a system put in base for gear, has nothing to do with LFR. I am not a huge fan of AP but I see why you need it to progress, however you don’t need to run LFR to get it.
As do you so pot meet kettle here. You have brought up half fleshed out points, and fail to clarify anything. No matter what expansion you play, there has always been optional content, it’s all up to your personal choice. If you choose to not do it, there have always been some sort of consequence.
Always implies a long time. There never was till legion. To be frank I don’t care about lfr anymore the last expansion where it had any real effect on progression was MoP if memory serves me right… maybe legion? Trinkets are always a weird sticking point.
I have no desire to pillage or take anything away, any perceived cruelty or maliciousness on my part isn’t there. I simply tire of all these grinds and all this gambling.
I won’t lie I expected to simply relax and retire from this version of the game to enjoy classic…and what does blizzard do?
They rush the last patch of pvp gear and release Naxx quality gear before BWL!
Isn’t that funny? Isn’t that a grand joke? All I wanted was to return to the time when you advanced via skill not by some grind and now when I got my wish to go back when I finally got what I wanted… They add in a grind over a year before it should be in the game and reduce progression to mindlessly grinding honor in PVP.
It is like spending your life building a time machine only that it works and at the moment of your triumph it only sends you back 20 minutes before exploding and killing you…
Ok so why even bother to start this thread here? You know so many like the content, you get that, yet you did it anyhow for what reason exactly? I am sorry your Classic experience isn’t what you expected, but to come to the entirely different retail forums to try to recreate a time you obviously loved seems futile to me. The game has evolved, and plenty enjoy and find ease of access comforting, that is all I am trying to tell you.
If I couldn’t queue for 5-mans I wouldn’t do 'em. I mean, I barely do them as it is, but I’m certainly not going to put in extra effort just for a heroic.
Giant incoherent ranty paragraph about how mythic guilds function brought to you by…someone who has no idea what they are on about.
Guilds don’t go out of their way to be rude to applicants or trials for no reason.
You are classic dunning kruger, I would wager the farm you have never stepped foot into a mythic guild yet you seem so so confident in your expertise of how they function.
I know the point of your story is that the big bad elitist at the park was gatekeeping you, but lets dig a bit deeper.
Why would be say that “you can’t”?
This is an interesting choice of words, and implies perhaps you weren’t level capped, or progressed enough?
Or maybe they weren’t accepting applicanta of your class.
Maybe they were an RP guild that only accepted evil factions? Or good factions?
Anyways, I believe this story of yours happened. I also believe you were likely entirely out of your depth. Were you asking to join the best guild on the server when you were a complete noob that had never raided?
I give you this advice:
You were laughed at because you asked if you could join their guild. You were likely a noob, and likely percieved as someone looking for hand outs.
Had you asked “what do I need to do as a player to get to the level where I would be ready to join a guild like yours”…
You would have likely been taken more seriously. Phrasing the question this way implies you have the self motivation to learn and do the things you need to do without someone holding your hand. It makes you seem like someone with potential, rather than someone looking for a carry.
Take it or leave it, I bid you good luck in your hunt for a guild!
I gave you the full story. It was a day at a park hosted by an EQ guild that coincidently happened to all (or at least most) live in my relatively immediate area, and they also happened to be on my server.
They had the look of gamers, and they might have had some progressed characters, but they were not the top guild on my server at the time. I actually remember the name of the one that was back in the day.
I do remember that when I asked to join, I wasn’t looking for a free ride or handouts. I just thought it would have been awesome to be a part of a community that all knew each other, and I thought the reaction at the time would have been different given that we had actually met face to face in real life. I thought that would at least count for something.
Granted, I was 16 years old at the time and that sort of question never occured to me. For all I know that could have been the sole reason they never invited me. I never got closure on that.
Hint hint, if you’re out there somewhere, Red Branch of Solusek Ro…
I have one right now and I’ve never had more fun with the game. Though if previous experiences have taught me anything, that could easily change any day.
Blizzard will never remove these systems its way to late in the game to do so, its like flying they have tried to remove it, slow it down etc etc and people have had fits over it.
If they made a new game then maybe they wouldn’t introduce it.
To be fair, you aren’t wrong here. Most guilds, mine included, have a social rank. Anyone who is a RL friend can always join.
This is common.
Maybe, who knows, 16 year old me playing EQ was the biggest noob on the planet and did and said tons of dumb crap.
One time our GM was on a business trip and came to raid with us. My friends mom was an alcoholic so we always hung out at his place cuz there were no rules.
Imagine bringing a random 30 yo dude into your place like no questions asked LOL.
Just “Sup, here to raid EQ”.
Awesome! I mean sure it can change any day. So can everything. An asteroid could hit earth and wipe out everything, including your guild, no sense dwelling on it.
Have fun, and if the day comes you find yourself on the hunt again, be smart, learn from your past mistakes, and find another great guild.
Honestly, after the bad luck and failures I’ve had with people and MMO gaming in general, it’s very hard to not just dwell on it. I mean, I’m currently in a guild that has been together since Cata, all goes to BlizzCon every year, lives closeby, genuinely cares about each other, etc…and instead of being able to enjoy it all I can think about is how it can all easily fall apart. The past experiences have scarred me and it’s tough to break out of that mindset. It’s doubled by the fact that Retail WoW is the only place I can really have fun in. Couldn’t find a useful guild in Classic WoW or in P99 EQ. I’m just horrible and awkward with people apparently.
This is, incidently, why I will always support things like LFR and group finding tools, and will come to threads like this to defend them. Because I know what it’s like to not have reliable friends to do the content with otherwise.
Funny enough, its the exact reason I oppose LFR and queueable content.
You guys like to talk about gatekeeping and people excluding others.
LFR is the biggest gatekeeper and obstacle ever towards people finding good guilds and making long term meaningful social bonds like you described.
Nobody even talks in LFR or heroic queues.
Being able to “see the content” isn’t what mmos are about for me. Just watch a stream or YouTube vid of the cutscene and save yourself $15/mo + expac costs if thats all you care about.
I don’t think it would honestly. Once blizzard catered to players like you the subs nose dived… its to the point classic is beating out bfa. What if all this time players like you are really the ones costing them money?
Yeah but they won’t ever admit that. There are people in the classic forums who swear black and blue that it’s super easy to form a group in classic and if you tell them it took hours to form a group they’ll say you’re lying.
Or what if it’s because of players like you who preach how they know how it should go? How many have pointed out to you that classic has seen a significant drop, that those people have come back to retail? This afternoon alone I watched you ignore myself telling you that and plenty of others did it too.
I am guessing you are back for this again?
Thing is you have zero proof this is the case. Yet you keep thinking it is. The forums alone that represent less than 4% of players don’t seem to agree with you. Checked twitter much the same reactions as here, I think you need to retire.
