There has been talk about Blizzard not paying enough, it got me to thinking. What if we could tip based on departments or specific people in case of customer support encounters. Would you tip? I think I would tip the art and music team, and occasionally tip customer support provided I ever actually get a real person. I would tip because I believe it would help encourage other teams to work harder to get that tip. I think we would over all see a better game. Do you think it would make a change at all?
Holy hell, this is stupid. No one should have to rely on the kindness of private citizens in order to get paid, especially to get paid a living wage. Go away and start demanding more of your politicians/the corporations that own them.
You do realize with the number of people that play if only a fraction of us tip, they stand to make millions a year yeah?
Or the CEO could just pay his employees and not give himself a fat bonus then expect random people already paying the company x amount a month to also tip their employees.
It literally does not matter. We wouldn’t be having this conversation at all if companies like Blizzard didn’t spend the last half of a century BRIBING politicians to keep wages down for employees as well as corporate/personal taxes for high earners. Not a SINGLE person’s livelihood should rely on the kindness of strangers for them to survive. Period.
Tipping culture is a symptom of a society that allows corporations to get away with underpaying their staff. Your transaction is with the business for their product or service. You pay them and then they pay their staff. It’s not on you to subsidise their employees’ wages so they can boost their profits.
You already pay x amount for your meal at the Restaurant. I guess you refuse to tip the waitress as well
I refuse to tip them. It’s a free market. If they want more, then feel free to find other employment opportunities. We pay them for an expansion every 2 years and then 15 a month for server access. That’s enough.
Are you slow? The restaurant business was built around paying their employees LESS than minimum wage, which is why tips are utterly necessary until we fix that system. This is an entirely different situation and it is unbearably idiotic to even suggest they are the same.
Because companies totally wouldn’t use this as a further excuse to exploit their workers…
We don’t tip them where I live, they get paid a wage by their employers. If they do a good job, they get a raise. If they do a bad job, they get fired.
Tipping is actually considered a disrespectful gesture. Not everywhere follows American systems.
they’ll waste it on store mounts
That is absolute god damn nonsense. No full time job should pay a wage below the cost of living. Such a job should not exist. Especially not at a multi billion dollar corporation that avoids paying tax while still receiving a tax refund, lays off hundreds of staff while boasting about record profits, and pays their CEO $40 million+ per year. A CEO who is a billionaire and ranked as one of the most overpaid CEOs in America. That is obscene.
Huh, here they get paid minimum wage 13.25 a hour, plus tips. Honestly some waitresses get paid better then many CNA’s. It’s kind of weird.
America is a poison.
Things work differently outside of America. Who knew?
Nobody told them to work in California. That’s their choice. Nobody told them to be game developers. Once again, their choice. Nobody forced them to sign a contract with Blizzard, another choice.
They do have to be paid minimum wage, which is far lower than it should be. The difference is an employer can count up to $5.12 in tips an hour towards wages. Note that I am going by federal numbers here.
So you have never been to a restaurant.
Nice sentiment but bad idea.
For one thing, it puts the onus on us to pay what the company should be paying. We are already paying for products and subs.
Somewhat worse, Blizzard would include that in their pay packages, and probably simply pay less or keep wages flat to use our tips to balance their ledger.
And even worse, some states tax tips. The various state and local governments would want to dip into that pool, depending on where their workers reside. Much less the feds.
Lets not over complicate things while paying more.
