I think it would be pretty amazing if we get to the heartland of the Arathi Empire, we’re welcomed warmly, ushered into the throne room with our friends from Hollowfall at our side. We finally meet The Emperor and Remorna is sheathed and laying across his lap.
I don’t get why people act like having a 1-D villain is a bad thing. Sometimes it is fun to have a villain who knows they are a villain and don’t care what others think of them. In a world of “oh X villain has a tragic backstory” or “oh Y villain was actually the good guy, you were just too stupid to see it” (aka Zovaal), not having either of those is a breath of fresh air. I mean look at Jack Horner from Puss in Boots 2 and how people responded to him.
There’s a reason why people genuinely enjoy evil characters like Azshara and Denathrius. They know they’re evil, they know you know , and they do not care.
Plus his voice actor sounded like he was having a ton of fun voicing him. I hope blizz eventually brings back both Denathrius and his VA.
Sounds like a good idea! Denathrius now that he broke his ties with Death could easily offer himself to be Purified by the Naaru as a way of getting a seat at their table! Light does not give Morals but Confidence, Faith, Valor, Happiness and Pride therefore his Ego is going up the roof with his Purification!
Bonus Points if the Arathi Empire was infact not on the other side of Azeroth but infact in one of those Crystal things that Beledar is counted among that are probably the source of Azerite(considering Azerite is similar to Beledar’s Crystals according to Anduin).
Preferably the one below Silithus saving Denathrius for The Last Titan or Midnight(as Illidan is tied to the Sword in Silithus according to an Interview and thus would either appear when the Titans do or in the Expansion just before their arrival in order to herald said arrival)!
Personally I’d LOVE it if the Dreadlords pre-date the First Ones “creating” the Shadowlands.
I mean, it’s been implemented that ‘The First Ones’ are souls of various beings throughout the cosmos that were implanted into vessels to act as leaders of their respective realms.
Thus:
- You could implement the Nathrazim were not always demons, but once a void-aligned-society race amongst other races denizens that were reminiscent of the Venthyr.
- Amongst these races & society — have Denathrius as an eternal being, godlike even before his ascension; who once saw the concept of redemption as a path of an ascended mindset, to which he immeasurably prided himself upon.
- Later reveal the First Ones had chosen him, along with other eternal beings, each with noble or admirable personalities & principles throughout the cosmos — Initially as only INSPIRATIONS for their constructs … which ultimately proved ineffective (The Proto-type Pantheon).
- And so, the First Ones presented themselves before each of the eternal beings they originally held in high regard and offered them a role for the realms they were building along with a gifted reward for accepting such an offer of both tremendous duty and prideful leadership.
It would be a good way to both extend the lore of each being, somewhat remove the robotic-synthetic nature of godlike beings in the Shadowlands and perhaps even give some additional story to the Shadowlands
(eg. It was built to protect the ‘True’ afterlife & souls from necromancy and help troubled spirits someday enter such a realm without being lost & becoming a troubled threat amongst the cosmos)
Ultimately:
I get that many would rather Shadowlands be retconned in its entirety, forgotten or ignored — But whether we like it or not, its here to stay.
Personally, I believe if it’s here to stay then the best we can do is smooth the rough edges and perhaps bring forward some concepts that were butchered with the lore of Shadowlands — Emphasising these concepts are still canon, but merely weren’t addressed and that there’s still much mysticism, mystery and unfathomable potential throughout the universe along with life, death and beyond.
Honestly I wouldn’t mind if he became a leader of the Forsaken after some X threat comes to threaten their very existence.
- He’d be a very welcome aesthetic to their leadership, that’s for sure.
That being all said, that’s just my personal desire – I’m not really too bothered if they decide to take a different route with Denathrius.
… If they did however — I’d say make him one that’s not entirely “fond” of the Alliance – but works well with them when the situation calls for it
Later have Denathrious in his studies of the Forsaken people could be eventually reflected to become rather admirable of Sylvanas’ old shenangins towards her vengeful ambitions of the past – Reimplementing some similar tactics and edicts amongst the Forsaken to newer threats & bring some ACTUALLY morally grey conflict amongst both the Alliance and Horde, where the playerbase can see both the threat behind such actions … But also the benefit.
As stated though, Denathrius story in Azeroth is one I’m rather skeptic on – So long as they can use him well & tell a decent story, I’m good either way.
That is very unlikely since we do have a first hand witness to their creation. That being Renethal.
Attaching the scourge to Denathrius is wasteful because he isn’t that type of Dark Lord.
His base theme is molded on Strahd, sure, but he isn’t a wildly crazy necromancer like Strahd. He’s just a hoity toity manipulative vampire archetype.
Renethal is a Venthyr, not a Dreadlord*
That being said however – You could still easily implement that the creation of the Venthyr was simply based off the past mental-projections of people from Denathrius’ home world
Denathrius is the lord of being an anagram of Death’s Ruin. Also: I Hated Urns.
He was there when Denathrius created the Dreadlords.
Oh yeah I forgot about that …
To be fair, their re-writing & redirection of lore via their retcons made things a tad chaotic
Well You could still perhaps apply the same “mental-projection” principle referenced earlier and note that some handfuls of Dreadlords were of the original society and others were more-so forged by Denathrius himself akin to Renethal
unpopular opinion: the first ones are good lore. order should not be the most powerful force, with the most powerful gods.
very popular opinion: robots should not in any way be related to anything but order, and that especially means the first ones and the eternal ones.
just bury shadowlands lore honestly some parts were okay but I still dont feel like keeping much
I say keep revendreth and maldraxxus lore. Dumpster fire the rest of it
I hate the afterlife realms lore honestly.
A common thing in bad expansions is trying to do too much at once and/or disconnected zones.
I thought some of the general ideas explored in SL were okay.
Having another power involved in the Lich King actually does answer a lot of lingering questions from back in Warcraft 3.
In WC3 Kiljaedan made the Lich King so how come the Lich King seemed to be a threat to him? The Lich King was very all knowing for a creature that was once an random orc. The death powers were different than what the fel demons used also.
