One of these “likely done before but I don’t remember/haven’t seen them so I’mma do one” kinda things. What would you guys think if we were to return to Outland after BFA or even further down the line?
I would personally like to see TBC zones finally updated, see all the Lore updated as well especially after all the Legion stuff. Outland was already home of Legion splinter groups, most predominately the Illidari, but it would be great to finally see the defeat of the Burning Legion in effect. Definitely would love to see how the Illidari are gonna do going forward, maybe their presence will return in force, using somewhere in Outland as a base of operations to continue rooting out Demonic influence.
Then there’s the Broken and Lost Ones, I would like to see more Broken stuff in general. More Broken going to the Alliance, more Broken uniting and splitting apart into different factions. Would like to see more how the Broken’s culture has differed since their downfall and corruption.
The Dragons and remaining Breakers in the Shattered Edge Mountains, another place where it’d be nice to see what happened there.
There’s plenty to pull together here, even if it seems somewhat rehashy, it’d be amazing for people like me who have nostalgia of TBC and who love the aesthetics of it.
To be honest I’d like to see all of the previous content updated with new quest chains and dungeons that have mythic dungeon modes for max level characters. It’d be easy to do just like they did with cata.
Well I don’t even mean that, I’m just saying it’s been a quite a few years since TBC. We’ve progressed pretty far, so I’d like to see how much it’d improve.
the only way that i would like to go to back to outland is probably in a different timeline where kaelthas isn’t dead and we develop the story forward.
some sort of reboot!
if that isn’t the case then no,i don’t think that anything interesting could be happening there and the repeated zones.
if we go to another world then it has to be a total new world.
or world revamp in azeroth, because actually things happens in there.
My thoughts pretty much. There’s not much left to do on Outland, it’s a doomed world that’s still in the process of disintegrating into space dust. I’d rather have a story arc where the Draenor of the past and present collide and create an crazy mix of both the AU and MU. Bring back some dead characters due to the space/time and stuff like Kael, Yrel, Garrosh, Maraad, and Kargath, give us our Ogre continent as well as our Farahlhon. Maybe add a jungle-themed titan facility there too, an “ulduar” for Orcs and Ogres. It would be a pretty bare-bones facility due to the lack of major titan influence on the world, so unlike anyone we have seen before, it would be a lot more primitive than what we’re used to. Where we have the Primals/Botani trying to subvert the facility to their own ends creating an artificial sporemound in the process kinda like how the titans made Ghuun.
Imo, they actually need to re-do a lot of BC’s lore.
I would imagine it would be the void expansion mostly, it’d just take place in Outland. It’s a disintegrating world, so it would be like evacuating allies (and maybe enemies unintentionally) from it before the big bad voidies come out to eat what’s left and fight us.
yeah… but why don’t just use that concept in a totally different and fresh place?
maybe a new world where we see a new civilization, new races? new cultures? new story?
because going in a revamped void themed hellfire peninsula don’t sound that exiting… sounds recycled and lazy content.
If that’s what you meant than yeah. BC had a lot of things right, but story was definitely not one of them. They killed off so many cool potential Horde figures before the story really became a focal point for the game and I feel like a lot of these characters need to come back to at the very least have a proper character arc. Kargath, for example, is constantly revered as this great Horde hero back on Azeroth yet there is absolutely zero context on why that is. All of a sudden he’s a fel Orc and the next thing we know we just kill him as a dungeon boss. He has no story whatsoever, he literally is just a loot piñata. Same with Zul’jin, who comes out of hiding just for some random hillbilly to steal his stuff which causes him to re-asset his hatred towards the outside world and then we just kill him as a raid boss. No real build up, he’s just a dungeon boss just to be dungeon boss.
Those who have payed attention to a lot of my posting, I’m always for updating old content. While I am not always a fan of the level gating for it because of RP and WPvP reasons, as we see in updated Arathi, Silithus, Blasted Lands, Tirisfal, and soon to be Darkshore, I believe I could accept it for an expansion wide update. A lot of old content and lore was lost during the Cata update, and I don’t think I’d want to lose all of that again. Simultaneously, I want updates to be part of the ‘base’ world. Its an internal struggle for sure.
That said, I also don’t want WoW to eventually turn into those memes of the world map in 20 years. You know the ones I’m talking about, where there is an island in every square foot of the map. Blizzard should certainly continue to tell the story through zone progression without the terrible phasing consequences introduced in Cata.
While the story may be limited to saving our allies from a verge of shattering planet, and some X (probably void) enemy has taken root and is trying to invade through the dark portal, again, it would be good to revisit and see at least one last time before the story goes, ‘No more. Its a shattered lifeless husk that floats across the nether’.
It would be a good time to bring in the Broken for the Alliance as an allied race, as well as Mok’nathal for the Horde. Both heavily requested by the fan base, only behind High Elves (and far less divisive). To see what Nazgrel has been up to, to give Trollbane and Arator some actual story. Perhaps a heart wrenching funeral for Greatmother Geyah, a Thrall cameo, hang around with Jorin Deadeye. The Alliance take Velen and Romuul and check in on K’ure and Oshu’gun. They story is there, it just needs to be acted on.
IMO if they are going to do a time travel expac they should do multiple time lines as zones. For instance we have one zone that is an alternate time line where the hour of twilight succeeded and you have to help the last survivors of Azeroth who have taken up little pockets of safety from the black empire. Another timeline where the Thunder King didn’t die and he ends up being the one to summon the burning legion. just multiple time lines in general where it’s a big what if scenario.
I feel like Guild Wars 2s Living World system would fit really well into WoW if done right.
If you’re not familiar it goes something like this.
-Gnolls are gathering, stop them
-Nobody stopped the gnolls, and now the town is under attack. Repell them.
-We couldn’t repell them, and they have taken over the town. Take it back
-We took back the town, chase them back to their base.
-Besiege the gnolls base, take it over
More or less it was a simply, but endearing system that had a bit of dynamic action happening somewhere in each zone. Updating world quests to follow this system would be a great way to make old content more fun.
