What if Lothraxion pulled a "Total Recall"?

There’s a lot of speculation about Lothraxion, the Lightforged Dreadlord, especially in regard to his allegiances. With Shadowlands retconning the Dreadlords into the creations and agents of Denathrius, an Eternal One of Death, it’s raised more questions than answers around Lothraxion. Several people, including myself, point out that he’d have problems tricking Xe’ra if he was really loyal to Denathrius all along – specifically her strictness, experience with the Nathrezim and mind-reading ability.

One day I was browsing my movie collection, and I realized there is a way Lothraxion could hide loyalty to Denathrius. Warning: SPOILERS. In the movie “Total Recall” (the 1990 version), Schwarzenegger’s character Quaid is revealed to be a fake persona for the villain Cohagen’s right hand man/best friend, Hauser, complete with fake memories implanted and fake friends and wife. They did this because the leader of the resistance movement against Cohagen, Kuato, is a psychic whose mind reading always flushed out Cohagen’s spies, and the plan was for Quaid to get close to Kuato, secretly leading Cohagen to the resistance so he could destroy them.

That is how Lothraxion could do it; Lothraxion could have become a contrite or Lightforged Nathrezim as an elaborate ruse to bypass Xe’ra’s mind reading ability. It’s not foolproof, as reading his memories could reveal the ruse being enacted and it raises the question of “why join the Legion in the first place?”. While it’s possible Lothraxion has become genuinely loyal to the Light, IF Lothraxion is still loyal to Denathrius and there is a way to trick a millennia-old, mind reading Naaru, this is it.

It is hard to say what they are going to do with Lothraxion. And he is not brought up much. He was pretty much ignored in BfA and Shadowlands.

It could be interesting if Lothraxion remained on the side of the Lightforged /Alliance/ Champions of Azeroth, but most signs point to him being an agent for the Nathrezim. Even if his conversion is for real, he could still be a villain fully converted to the Light if we have a Light based antagonist.

Heck, the way Lothraxion was accepted in to the Light, that could qualify as “the Light bargaining with the enemy of all.” I doubt that line refers to this situation- but it fits.

Do you think they could’ve pulled off a “fake memories” ruse ala Total Recall?

That’s what I mean, that character is sort of on the back burner, with a lot of big plot lines involving him.

That seems as likely as anything.

I was thinking something along the lines of a “sleeper agent safe word” magical spell sort of thing - that maybe he is legitimately converted, but he can be “brought back”.

Similar effect, but less sci fi / tech, and more magic, because of the setting.

Its funny how the same expansion we recorrupt the ashbringer, we also get light dreadlord

I’m in the same boat tbh. I find it more interesting to have a Dreadlord that defected away from Denathrius. We know Lothraxion was an “agent” of the Legion long before he became lightforged. Locus Walker spared him at one point during their little rivalry phase because he saw a very likely future where Lothraxion became lightforged.

Last we saw of Lothraxion in Legion, he said he was going to seek other Nathrezim to hunt and kill. That could be applied to if he’s loyal to the Light either purging the remnants of Legion leadership or sabotaging Denathrius’ plans OR, if he’s still loyal to Denathrius, it’s an excuse to catch up with them to further Denathrius’ schemes.

(Side note: I said it before and I’ll say it again, I think Shadowlands would’ve been better if Denathrius was the main antagonist).

Don’t be silly, Lothraxxion is loyal to the Light and the Light only.

Illidan hid his thoughts from kiljaeden who could read minds in the book illidan. It’s not easy but it can be done.

That’s different because Thaedus has a point. The light can see through your soul and can quite literally tell if you are lying. I personally believe the dreadlords simply failed in sabotaging the naaru. It is better to keep them flawed instead of grand schemers that tricked everyone

Lothraxion being legit is more interesting, and I’d hardly consider it a “bargain” if the Light’s just getting betrayed.

I hope he’s legit anyway, I’m sick of Dreadlord’s being behind every possible deceit.
