What if its the Sunwell

Ok this has been on my mind and I want to toss it out there before anything gets confirmed - so we all know the quote. “At the hour of her third death, she ushers in our coming.”

Well, since that quote was dropped, people have guessed everyone from Sylvanas to Azshara for who it could be referring to.

But with Midnight coming up, I have to ask - what if there’s someone we haven’t considered, or possibly more accurately, something we haven’t considered.

The Sunwell.

Death 1 - The destruction of the Sunwell following Arthas’s attack on Quel’Thalas.
Death 2 - When Anveena sacrificed herself to banish Kil’jaeden.
Death 3 - Whatever Xal’atath has planned, hasn’t happened yet.

After all, we know that whatever will happen, something called the Voidstorm (the thing in the sky from the Doorstep Teaser, whose name was confirmed in a Short on the official WoW YouTube channel) will arrive.

We also know from the few bits of promotional material that we have and the comments made upon Midnight’s initial announcement that the Void wants to put out the Sunwell’s light “plunging the world into darkness and fear”, as Metzen phrased it.

That certainly sounds like ushering in the coming of the Void, the cosmological force that Il’gynoth and the Old Gods belong to.

While I do like the theory, I’m not too sure that Anveena’s sacrifice would be a “death” of the Sunwell, since it was part of the rebirth of it in the first place, and part of what remained of the Sunwell after it’s first “death.” In effect, her demise was “finishing the job” of Arthas’s destruction of the Sunwell in the first place, and led to its restoration.

I’m not saying it doesn’t count, just that I’m not entirely sure if it should/would, due to the ambiguity there.

But, other than that? It’s actually the most fitting theory, since this next destruction actually does involve the void coming to Azeroth!!

i don’t even know if they want anveena to be canon anymore, she hasen’t ever been referenced again.

^Shes canon and fits pretty well. I like to theorize the wells are actually mini world souls. This patch has a book that reconfirms a connection between wells and the world soul. The world soul “talks” because it has an avatar perhaps, like Anveena. Her existence matches pretty well with what we know.

Would we call the Sunwell a she? If it was originally an… it, and its dragon-magicked distillation was a she, and its Light component was a he, wouldn’t M’uru + Anveena go by it/they?

The dragon made her a girl I think.
Iirc Anveena was a creation of magic, created by a dragon to protect the Sunwells last uncorrupted energies. Not so much a natural avatar of it.

Insert cool theory here about Azeroth’s “soul” not actually talking until the titans and other cosmic forces got their magics on it.

Zovaal’s soul was she/her (Arbiter) so I guess both the Sunwell, like Zovaal, can be canonically Trans?

The Sunwell was corrupted when Arthas used it to resurrect Kel’Thuzad during the Scourge invasion. To save his people, Kael’thas destroyed it—cutting the elves off from their power, but preventing their total collapse.

At the hour of her third death, she ushers in our coming’ would make way more sense if Alleria had actually died—but she hasn’t. Sylvanas fits somewhat, but it’s still a stretch. Azshara might be the best match so far.

The Sunwell theory is super intriguing though—if the Sunwell gets destroyed again or corrupted into a voidwell, that could be its second death… but we’re still missing one.
Anveena wasn’t even a human , she was literally the lingering energies of the Sunwell, shaped into a human form by Korialstrasz.
She died once.

The Sunwell was only a “she” with Anveena, so that’s one death, and a future death would make two.

Otherwise, you might be onto something. If what you’re saying is true, given what Xal’atath’s doing, I could absolutely see her using the Dark Heart to slurp up the Sunwell’s energy and/or pouring Dimensius into it.

Idk, Alleria saying “sometimes it feels like I died twice already” seemed like it was almost in direct response to the “hour of her third death” prophecy.

Sylvanas already died a bajillion times so I don’t think it’s her. And if you count metaphorical deaths, forget it.

Ya’ll are twisting the words used to try to create a narrative. Some of the void prophecies are vague while some are pretty specific. This is an example of a specific one. If they wanted to be vague and have us guessing they would have said “At the hour of her third DEFEAT, she ushers in our coming”.
