Yeah, I know the helm of domination is destroyed and that there’s no way to control the rampaging Scourge now, but hear me out.
Throughout BFA a popular theory was that Sylvanas would become the Lich Queen. That’s still a popular slur for the character, despite controlling the Scourge being something she has no interest in.
Calia, on the other hand, has her arc set up to be something of a soothing figure for the undead. Right now, yes, she’s pointed more towards the Forsaken thanks to Voss and the idea is to help sooth those Forsaken who may be feeling lost and confused over recent events, but Blizz has already hinted that Calia may not be as welcomed by the Forsaken as Voss thinks (or at least, not by a majority of the Forsaken).
Many have been wondering how we will deal with the Scourge since ‘there must always be a Lich King’ and now there can’t be. The assumption is we will wipe them all out in the prepatch event, but I’m wondering if it’s possible that Calia might be able to reach out and sooth at least a contingent of the rampaging Scourge. Where Arthas and Bolvar used the shadowy might of the Lich King to control them, Calia may be able to use the Light to guide them instead. (Yes, the light is suppose to harm the undead, but that seems to be a bit of lore that’s on its way out.)
If that were the case, it might give the Alliance playable undead while keeping the Forsaken firmly Horde. I think there would be a fair amount of players who would welcome the chance to have playable Scourge in the Alliance as well.
Thoughts?

How would Calia do that without the Helm of Domination or something similar?
Arthas is the pinnacle of DKs and without the Helm his reach was local.
That is an interesting take on the Golden One seizing the throne and the Light has made a bargain with the enemy of all whispers the forum has talked about.
Everyone immediately assumed it referred to Calia taking over Lordaeron. My personal theory was that the Golden One referred to Saa’ra, the Naaru who oversaw Calia’s resurrection. Now, it’s definitely leaning back towards Calia.
You’ve definitely given me something to think about.

By leading instead of dominating.
Yes there will still be mindless Scourge who the Horde and Alliance will have to put down, but those who have stronger wills might not rampage at all now that they are free of the Lich King’s control.
Through the bargain the light has struck with the enemy of all, Calia could step in to be a guiding hand rather than an iron fist. I’m not saying that Calia might not need some kind of power boost or the backing of some kind of powerful artifact of some sort, but I think she may be better positioned to inherit her brothers kingdom than her fathers.
It would be ironic if the Scourge came under the rule of a Menethil once again only this time for the Alliance, instead of against it.

I’m not sure there would be much left for Calia to lead after you got rid of the undesirables.
She can become whatever she wants, as long as it doesn’t result in an undead Alliance race.
There are a lot of Scourge. Enough to wipe out all life on Azeroth.
Also, as has been lamented many times on the story forum, there are always as many soldiers or members of a given race as Blizzard cares to say there are.
I don’t think you have to worry about the head count being too low.
The inter expansion event will be us destroying the feral scourge. I fear you faith in calia might be misplaced as is your faith in the scourge
Meh, see my reply to Xoroth above. We can flatten as many zombies as we like, it’s up to Blizz to decide how effective we are.
Culling the feral doesn’t mutually exclude Calia from extending a sympathetic hand to those that regain their senses, anyways.
That’s how I feel about Shadowlands as a whole. I don’t care what happens really as long as Horde doesn’t get a Vampire Elf race.
So you are proposing that instead of the forsaken, it should be a part o the scourge defecting to the alliance with the help of Calia with either lightforging them or just using some mind control mcguffin? I’d prefer she stays out actually

If the threat of the feral scourge is so minor that it only takes place in an event we might not what happens to the free scourge after all and let us be real the bolvar scourge does not house so many powerful creatures
Many died at wrath or left when the power was transferred
If I was being honest I’d prefer that Calia had never been introduced to the plot, but she’s here now, and we have to work with what we’ve got.
Yet there were enough still alive that there had to be a Lich King when Bolvar took over, or life on Azeroth would have been wiped out. I don’t think many members of the Scourge were lost after Bolvar became Lich King. If anything the events of the Legion Death Knight campaign seem to indicate he was gathering more forces.
My thinking on why the threat of the feral Scourge is minor is because not all of the Scourge end up rampaging as Terence thought they would.
Of course I’m only offering one reason that may be the case: Calia taking leadership of undead who regain their senses. There are other possible explanations that range from Bolvar still exerting control over some of the Scourge to some other great Necromantic power taking control of them (such as the Cult Of the Damned, Kel’thuzad, some of the other death entities that straddle the lines between the land of the living and the Shadowlands like Bwonsamdi, Helya, or Eyir.)
This is just one idea.

I would prefer if she was a rotten undead like the average forsaken that was hiding out of shame and now wants to size some power while using her father image to promote herself now that Sylvanas is gone, that makes her more tolerable and even an interesting element to add in the Forsaken civilizations, a political fight of power and scheeming.
However yeah I agree her light undead thing is what we have to deal from now on but however her sizing the control of some sentient parts of the scourge would boost her power character without any real explanation like Jaina that one day just woke up and wanted to raise a ship.

Which is why it fits right in with the writing they’ve done for every other Alliance main character.
I don’t think Calia will ever be Horde, but because of that I do think they will make her important to the plot and a powerhouse in her own right with little to no effort.
I can see that you and I are destined to be nemeses…
