So I had a thought. In every single rpg that I’ve have played demons are usually the bad guys and anything worshipping angels or the light usually humans are the good guys. Warcraft certainty follows that trend. In Warcraft many of crazy cults that you fight worship the old gods, arthas or any number of things. Warcraft pulls from a number of belief systems (loosely). However, Diablo follows more closely with the Judeo-Christian ideas about demons and angels. Let’s think outside the box. What if demons are the ones being oppressed, enslaved, and murdered. What if angels or the light or some cosmic force decided these creatures aren’t wanted in “my universe.” It would certainly be an interesting change, given the historical track record of major religions or even secular philosophies. There is hidden message here for the writers at Blizz. Give horde those red corrupted draenei, along with a breakaway faction from the burning legion. That will really surprise ppl.
They aren’t
The Forsaken are the good guys in this RPG
Read some of Mark Tufo’s work. Specifically the Demon wars starting with “Lycan Fallout 4” and his Shrouded World 4: Valhalla. He has a few good guy demons in it.
Considering the Legion has a trend of ripping out people’s souls and using them to power their magic that they use to conquer and enslave the universe, I’d say this particular take doesnt apply here.
Sargeras may have wanted to save the universe from the Void Lords at any cost, but the rest of the Legion just wanted to murdertrain everything for laughs, they didnt care what the end goal was.
There is a book series that covers this. Another Fine Myth
The forsaken are two-time victims of tyranny. First Arthas, now Sylvanas. Each turning them into monsters in their own way.
Don’t worry though. One day soon the people of Lordaeron will be free!
The Illidari are demons and many warlocks are considered demons in lore and sometimes aligned with good. Blizzard has already given us demons that aren’t evil that are actually playable. You even see some demons that don’t mean any harm in lore. One example is from an island expedition, there is this imp that is looking for a new home after being freed from the legion. This imp helps you in a mini quest. A lot of the associates of the Illidari are also considered demonic, but not enemies.
well in diablo angels are not forces of good. In many cases they are just as bad as the demons.
In WoW it is starting to become like that in regards to the light. No longer is it a force about preserving life and keep evil at bay but instead is just a cosmic force that wants to shape the universe into its’ perfect image.
Disgaea - The main character is a demon and kind of fails at being bad.
El Shaddai - Angels are the enemy
Honestly, why worry about who the enemies are rather than considering how they feel about their entire purpose in “life” being to be killed by the likes of us over and over and over again?
Sometimes sticking to the core basics of storytelling is a good thing, because going against the grain just feels like going against the grain “just because!” and it doesn’t mesh well with the audience.
Doing things to be contrary doesn’t always work.
Well I can say you are not alone when you think like this. Falls under some psychology stuff. Choice and existence. If the pope lands a spacehip on a planet of devils who’s the evil one ? Anyway it falls under the category one cannot exist and be labeled without the other. Keep up the good work
Well, there is an adult rpg game that replaces demons with monsters and are not really bad guys, but saying more would be spoiler for a damn good game and story.
It’s named Monster girl quest, it’s NSFW, so look it up at your own risk.
